Hilltop Raceway 07-07-2009, 11:32 AM Sorry guys and gals, but I've been trying to see the Space Station fly over forever it seems. Always seemed to be a cloud or the wrong location. I got my money's worth last night. The news said it would fly over Nashville on path from SW to NE around 9:41 pm. Sure enough, I was able to finally see it and watch in amazement. I kid you not, I started looking and spotted it, as it grew closer, I was looking straight up to watch it fly right over our house. It was amazing!!! It was so close, I called NASA, and left a meassage to check the cargo bay door latch, just to be safe. Had to share this with you guys even though they probably didn't have a slotcar track on board, at least I don't think they did...RM
roadrner 07-07-2009, 11:50 AM What, no pic? Congrats on seeing the station. My timing hasn't been right yet. rr
win43 07-07-2009, 12:36 PM Cool Randy. Hope that cargo door is secure. We don't wanna see no "space junk" littering Hilltop Raceway. :D
videojimmy 07-07-2009, 12:59 PM remember all the hype about Hailey's Comet back in the mid 80's?
I looked forward to that since I was about 5... man, what a rip off that was!
I'm a BIG fan of the space program... we should be going back to the moon every 5 yrs, just for kicks!

NTxSlotCars 07-07-2009, 06:39 PM There's a space station? I thought that fell back to earth in '79?
DesertSlot 07-07-2009, 10:17 PM If they had a track, they would need magnets.

Here's the best I could do RR. The station flew over twice tonight, once at 8:34 and again at 10:06. I think it's suppose to fly over tommorrow night also...RM

Crimnick 07-08-2009, 12:06 AM I once saw the shuttle and space station hooking up in the mid 90's...they came over just before dawn....pretty cool to be able to see them both with the naked eye...
AfxToo 07-08-2009, 07:51 AM One of most amazing space related experiences I've ever had was the 2001 Leonid Meteor shower. I remember setting my alarm for 2:00 AM and stumbling out into the snow covered yard in mid November, in my jammies, and staring in amazement and awe at the light show taking place above me. These days it's amazing just to be able to see the stars. I've been in the middle of the Atlantic on crystal clear, pitch black, moonless nights so I know what it's like to see vast quantities of stars from horizon to horizon. I am fortunate to live in an area that, so far, has fairly low levels of light pollution, but it seems to be getting worse every year.
slotcarman12078 07-08-2009, 12:21 PM It is amazing just how many stars are out there. Most people don't have the opportunity to really get away from all light sources to see them. There is a 100+ mile stretch of I-70 in Utah that is basically unsettled and dark, and I happened to be there after nightfall on a moonless night on one trip. I made a restroom stop that ended up turning into a half an hour of staring at the sky in complete astonishment. I had no idea there were that many stars up there!!!
yankee_3b 07-08-2009, 09:33 PM We see lots of strange glowing lights north of Las Vegas! Check out this space shot of Groom Lake at Area 51 about 80 miles north-northwest of downtown Las Vegas. It has a strange green glow???
