View Full Version : Gangster-Era Die-Cast Cars?

After seeing Public Enemies, I got to wondering why no one has ever done a line of die-cast cars from the Great Depression, specifically, Gangster-Era cars. I sent an e-mail to M2 Machines and their response was interesting. They said they'd consider it with enough support from collectors. So what do you think? Would you like to see a line of cars driven by the likes of Bonnie & Clyde, Dillinger, Al Capone, etc.? Fire off an e-mail to support@m2machines.com and vote in the poll I created on my website: www.hollywood-diecast.com (http://www.hollywood-diecast.com)

Thanks,
- JJ

I also vote yes. But not only for gangster cars but everyday normal cars from the '40s, '30s, and '20s. I think M2 would be great in these era's.

Great idea. I'd think of these not necessarily gangster cars, but as the best of 1920's -30's era cars - which nobody is doing. What are you thinking as the car line-up?

Well, the car I'd really like to see is the '34 Ford V8 driven by Bonnie & Clyde. Imagine it with and without bullet holes! We could get the historic AND the movie version. And I think a couple of police cars from that era would be welcomed as well. I'd like to see some specific ideas listed here, as well.

I agree! Accurate cars, but good scale as well. I'll be voting yes and sending an email.

Al Capone drove a Caddy v12 or v16 I believe.

I have to post a no. I think these would be even bigger peg hangers than the current offerings (which I hope they can keep offering). No interest whatsoever.

a lot of people don't like the 1930s cars cause they were slow and "old" but there were some pretty fast cars in there... mainly the duesenbergs.

I'm in! I was about to customize a Treasure Hunt Hot Wheels '34 Ford into Bonnie and Clyde's death car, but I'll wait and see what happens with M2 Machines. I wouldn't mind seeing a 1936 Cord Convertible, in say all black. Don't know if any gangsters drove one, but they should have!

I would buy them but I don't see them selling well nor having that much repeat casting life.

Don't know if any gangsters drove one, but they should have!If you're a big fan of the Cord automobile, I thought you might like to know that there is a beautiful Cord convertible featured in the 1937 film, A Damsel in Distress. George Burns and Gracie Allen are driving it around the British countryside(?), and it appears a couple of times during the movie in some reasonably long scenes. I thought it was very interesting to see a Cord in use while it was still a new car. I wonder if ACD had a promo agreement with the studio. I've seen a Cord in a different Astaire movie, but I can't remember which one. Auburns appear in his films at times, too.

Thanks for that information! I'll try to find that movie sometime just to see the Cord. Somewhere on the internet, I found a site that mentioned the Cord and how many appearances it had made in film and television. Also the times it was used while still new. Too bad the company folded so soon!

I'd love to see some '30's and '40's era cars. There are some awesome cars from these decades...

I wouldnt have much interest in them either , but they could also be marketed for the 'The Untouchables' TV show ..

I'd jump into these with both feet. Auburn boattail speedsters, Duesenbergs, Lincolns, Packards. If these were well done and TO SCALE I suspect they would sell better than some might think. (If they could pull off making a good wire wheel.........)

I think these would be a great idea in a 12 Car Set and make them Limited
too .... Make 10k only for each Car and then stop the line. This will be great
for the collectors who love Cars that are Limited..... HW's IMHO has burned
so many bridges throughout the years that the older Collectors like myself
have stopped putting our $$$ in Mattels pocket but rather putting it in other
Corps pockets. I love Limited items that you dont see hanging on the pegs
everywhere you go. Show us some great Limited Cars that can save this
Hobby as Mattel is hurting this Hobby with Mass Marketed Cars.

I'm IN.......
