View Full Version : Spektrum recievers, radios
FMurry8995 07-05-2009, 05:19 PM I have been using a spektrum module in my Futaba 1024 radio for years, I have NEVER had a glitch with the system. I love it. I recently purchased a DX3R and some spare recievers. I ran the radio at Lansing for the tristate and had NO problems. This past weekend I ran the radio at Freddies 500 race and I had some issues. First was that the throttle servo would go full throttle but would only return to idle position. Whem I applied the brakes there was NO servo movement. I had it set and it was working for awhile but then nothing. Started swapping servos in and out and all servos were good. Then it statred working again. Next I had the system go into the fail safe mode during a heat race. Nothing, nada, zip. Battery was fully charged. I then pulled the reciever out of the car (it was brand new, never out of the box till I installed it into the car). I then installed the older reciever into the car and everything was fine and yes I used the futaba radio with the module in it.
Has anyone had problems with the newer system? One other racer told me he had been having problems with his recievers. Just want to know.
Fred
Mike Clark 07-05-2009, 05:36 PM Hi Fred,
That sounds like some of the problem that Tim McCown was having last race at Lagoon Park. I believe he is using a 3PK and the Spektrum 2.4 system.
PM him to get the complete story.
Tim Mc 07-05-2009, 06:03 PM My situation... Start at post #191. They received my system last Wed. I have not heard back from them. Of course it was a holiday weekend whic is understandable.

I'm sure they have other products they are working on, but it's not very settling to hear of such a long turn around time...

CASPER...where you been?....you going to califorina?
Tim Mc 07-07-2009, 06:50 PM It doesn't matter where you buy it, when it has to go back for warrantee or repair, it still has to go to Horizon.
Besides it was local... J&M Hobbies was in the trailer next to mine.:)
MSadler 07-07-2009, 07:06 PM Dont get anymore local than that!:beatdeadhorse:
Tim Mc 07-07-2009, 07:46 PM Loco / local... all comes outta same trailer...hehehe
Sonny B 07-07-2009, 08:21 PM Sorry Tim it usually only takes about 7-10 days. The repair guys have been slammed the last couple of months with a warranty issue that kind of clogged up the system.
The good news for you is I know a guy that can pull some strings and get it done a little faster.
TerryI#6 07-07-2009, 09:34 PM Fred you have a PM.

Its diffrent at my hobbyshop tim they would send it back and replace mine with another
Tim Mc 07-08-2009, 12:08 AM Thats good cause if it turned out to be operator error or a radio malfunction that caused the issue, the hobbyshop would be stuck with the repair bill, the shipping and the used system. I don't know of any shops that can afford to cover a repair for something they do not make or control. Its diffrent at my hobbyshop tim they would send it back and replace mine with another
willyplankhead 07-08-2009, 12:38 AM I make most of my purchaces with J and M or R C hobbies in huntsville never been done wrong R C's has supplied my electrics for years any problem they deal with it or show me what I done wrong
Tim Mc 07-11-2009, 06:25 PM Got my system (new) back today @ no charge . There was no information to let me know what was wrong on the other system. There were notes on the invoice stating Be sure to connectto Futaba or Hitec system and that the battery voltage and polarity is correct
I use a 6.0v pack. According to the spec sheet it requires 4.8v. Is anyone else using 6.0v? Also, anyone using 4.8 without havinbg to charge the pack more than once during an event?
Thanks
Tim Mc 07-11-2009, 06:37 PM Mr. Brown... thank you for your help!

FMurry8995 07-15-2009, 11:45 AM I recieved a PM from Tom about my post about they DX3R. This was my reply.
Tom:
Thanks for the information on the radio. It is at Horrizon as I type. I think they are doing an update on the transmitter as it was one of the first ones out and there was a service bulleten on a binding issue (not sure this was the problem but they are checking everything out just to be safe). I am having them replace all of the antennas on the recievers as there is a newer style that is less critical about bending. I was told you could bend this one like a pretzel. Most if not all issues may have been due to my lack of operator knowledge about the system. My "no brake" was due to me pushing buttons without knowing what they did. "E" button is for brake adjustments on the fly. I'll be more careful next time. Horizon (I talked with my friend there Sonny Brown) has been great getting my issues resolved solved. Just a few things that I learned. The brake issue was due to me inadvertently making a setting change. The transmitter needs to be a couple of feet from the reciever while on the bench setting up the car and settings. Its all logical.
Thanks for your advice Sonny.
I am considering a second radio for my grandson either another DX3R or possibly a DX3S.
