I really dont know if this is the right place for this question.I am racing 1/10 dirt oval cars and want to step into something like 1/4 scale racing.I see different classes like GN etc-Is this the one for someone new getting in ?
I would like to have a competitive car in the long run cause I really cant afford 2 or 3 cars at a time.Is there a nice basic chassis that is easy to get parts for, easy to work on and fairly competitive?I hate to buy one and then in a month the company goes out of business or etc.
The last question is,I see they run a restrictor plate, where when I start racing can I purchase one of these and the $ of it?
I would like to eventually start racing at lagoon ( I live on the gulf coast in Ms about 3 hrs from there)I cant jump out there and run with the big dogs but,I would like to have a nice car so I can use it when I step up.I am looking at a couple like one is a lightning to buy.Real nice guy andits a 2008 chassis.thanks for your time kenny:thumbsup:

Then look under manufacturers/distributers. You can also download the rules there too. :)

The Pro1 car is very nice. All the Mfg's (QSAC site) of 1/4 scale build nice cars, all winners in the right hands.

2008 Lightning is a good car too (i have one). Easy to get parts for. The term "red cap" means it has a red (color) spark plug cap (newest model).

I dont believe I can go wrong scott on this deal.I am new at this and with the economy now with racing 6 cars in elect classes between Ms - Fla.I had to do some rethinking.I like the 1/4 scale and never seen one up close.I cant wait till the race in montgomery.I missed the last one due to racing in foley,Al.I still will keep my hyperdrive pan car but,I think with the lipos and brushless systems -its getting tough.I didnt realize the Zen engines were the sme price as a brushless system. If you race one of the lightnings and have good service withit then I believe this is the route to go.I have Sold half of my cars and busting my hiney to come up with money to buy one.I may have more questions though so yall bear with me.Oh,the restictor plate, how do I get one when I start?

As Scott said in his post all the cars are capable of winning races. You don't have to have this years chassis to win either, older cars are still capable of winning races. The big thing is setup and driver. We all run the same motor and they seem to last forever. The restrictor plates are usually avalible from Willman racing products or from many of the dealers listed on the QSAC web site. I always try to have some on hand.
Racing at Montgomery will be fun for you. It is a super track and the guys that race there are a great bunch of racers. I have raced there many times. As for what class I suggest you run sportsman as that is what they run at Montgomery. You will find in quater scale that the fellow racers will help you get set up and going as fast as possible. Theory is the better you handle the better the racing, the more fun. I have been doing this since 1994 so I have been around a bit. If you have more questions you can call me at 937-475-4016 weekends and after 9 pm are free calls for me. Fred:wave:

Not really Kenny, The Sportsman Division is the most competative group of racers that you will see racing 1/4 scale at Lagoon Park, there are usually between 10 to 20 Sportsman at every race. There is a small group of Sprinters and the Super Trucks are ever increasing in numbers. The Limited Sportsman class is the starting point at Lagoon park. These racers are either new to 1/4 scale or R/C racing in general. We have a race next Saturday so come on up, watch the races and meet some of the racers.

Not a bad price for a race ready car. However there will be a few items that you will need like a fuel bottle and a few rod ends along with the tape measure and the duct tape.

Kenny,
Welcome to Quarterscale racing and Lagoon Park Raceway. You'll be glad you made the switch! We have several converted 10th scalers and they adapt very quickly. You can definately run q-scale competitively on a budget. These motors last forever, and with a good setup, you can run a full season on one set of tires. These cars are tough and can take a beating. The most common breakage are $2.75 heim joints and $7.00 belts, and can be replaced in minutes. We have guys running the WCM, PRO1 and Lightning on a regular basis, and someone will usually have the part you need on hand to complete the day if you do break something.
As for pit stops, we always do red flag fuel stops, and most of the drivers come down and fuel their own cars. Look forward to seeing ya at the track:thumbsup:

Green Flag stops are just another way to add in more competition to a race. Some racers want the green glag stops but the race needs to be long enough to make it happen and there needs to be pit men to pump your fuel. So for right now red flag stops are good enough for me.

Kenny,
No doubt that car will be fast if Bob gets a hold of it. He's always the man to beat when he's here. MMS is back in operation and is probably about 15 miles or so from the track. They are on the south side and we are on the east. The campgrounds across from the big track is called Gunter Hills campgrounds, and is still a very nice spot to stay if your camping.

Kenny,

Being a club, we try to keep a family oriented atmosphere. Anything obsene, indecent or profane on the cars will fall outside of that relm. I don't see that number as being any of the above, but it will be announced over our PA system which is heard by surrounding homes and areas of the park. Also, the person on the PA might have issue with it...which can easily be annouced as Sixty-six. :)

TBO, It will be best to bring it up at the drivers meeting Saturday. I personally have no problem with that number but I can only speak for myself.

Hi Kenny,
If you have been on the drive Bios on the Lagoon Park site you may have noticed several drivers from the Hueytown area "The Hueytown Gang". Well to put it a easier way the "28" is locked up! But Davey drove other numbers as well in his racing days. I am hung up on Neil Bonnett so I picked his old "75" number from back in the day when he raced a Pontiac. May I suggest looking into Davey's past racing history and find a number that you may want to run.

The number 666 I would think would lend itself to connotations other than a racing hero, so choose wisely "Grass Hopper"

Oh tim,I was just kidding on that one, sorry about that.my wife would kill me(LOL),I just seen that # on his car and though it was crazy.I really wouldnt do something like that.when I signed up along time ago and tried on a few sites to use kenny it was taken then I tried my birthdate behind that ,it was taken. So I just it just jumped out there on me to try it.Some people picture me as being a develish looking person and i am just as plane jane short haired cut person with NASCAR drivers tatooed on my arm.I am sorry that it sounded like I was gonna try and put that # on it.I will check into the numbers with the drivers. So I guess I have to leave off the Hooter girls in bikinis on my hood(LOL)-my wife would kill me there as well. The car will be painted Purple and yellow with my wifes sponsor on it -Its called the Purple Poodle Pet Grooming,It will have a logo on the hood that says the fastes poodle in the south and a picture of a dog bone with flames behind it.I do have a logo for her that she likes and wonder if its ok,It says S.O.B at the top and WIFE at the botom,in the center the sob stands for Sponsor,Owner,Boss.I know which side my butter is on,I aint making her mad,she is the sponsor.LOL
