View Full Version : Target?
rattlehed 07-05-2009, 09:26 AM Went to my local Target this morning to check things out. I noticed that the M2 pegs were stripped bare. They were extremely low for a while now so I was hoping for some new stuff. What I found was 3 empty pegs except one out of place HW color changer. By stripped I not only mean devoid of M2 but also that the UPC/price/stock sticker was gone off the ends of the pegs.
Has anyone else seen this? Just wondering. I recall hearing that GL would be making a return to Target this year, is this it? If so that would be OK w/me. I collect GL religiously and another outlet would be a welcome deal right now but I don't wanna lose M2 and have it replaced with JL 40th or something even worse. Anyone care to speculate or actually know what this means?
Acererak 07-05-2009, 09:28 AM While checking for new M2 product at one of my local Targets i was told that M2 was discontinued along with the Drag Strip Demons and Larry's Garage cars.
rattlehed 07-05-2009, 09:44 AM That's gonna free up about 10-12 pegs in my Target if all of those are history.
In that case I hope they get GL and JL 40th, that would be sweet even though I really didn't want to lose M2, kinda sucks that I also really liked the dragstrip demons and was on my way to completing the set.
Acererak 07-05-2009, 10:00 AM I hear ya there Mark. I am only missing 1 or 2 onthe Demons myself. Once Target was one of the better places for us collectors to go to, now it's become one of the worst. (At least in my area)
robertwadehall 07-05-2009, 02:53 PM I've bought GLs almost exclusively from a few favorite OLDs, have had good luck in finding HWs and Matchbox at Target.
alex1485 07-05-2009, 08:53 PM Wal-Mart is still quality though.
FastC6Vette 07-06-2009, 06:43 PM Doesn't phase me. I hardly ever to go Target and every time I check the toys they always had the same full pegs of early 50's cars from the first release.
STUTZ 07-08-2009, 11:35 AM I've seen several of the same unpopular M2 casting at my a couple of my local Target stores. I know a couple flea market vendors who buy M2's by the case and return the duds that they can't sell to Target (they buy a more popular M2 casting and return the dud). Target should ask for ID on diecast returns (to see if they same person is returning diecast often) so these unscrupulous people who return diecast in quantity stop this practice. It hurts the real collector because Target won't order more M2 cars when they have castings that aren't selling.
Does anyone else see a multiple M2 casting of an unpopular car at their local Target?

I'm sad that some people would exert so much effort to defraud a store and damage the overall acceptance of diecast in their local areas. With current gas prices, each round trip to a not-nearby store can equal at least one diecast car. Those jerks could sit on them until they sell, mark them down to wholesale cost to break even, or even donate and deduct. Geez. What petty & ridiculous people they must be.
Anyway, I've noticed that the only '50s stragglers at my TGTs are the orange custom '57 Ford and the clear hood custom Olds.
The surprise stragglers at TGT & TRU are the gold & silver Chevelles from Detroit Muscle. It takes a lot to create a Chevelle that won't sell in Metro St. Louis, but both of these shades seem to be a little off, and are apparently resistable, even by diehard fans.
Unsurprising leftovers are the Christmas customs, at both TRU & KM. I've tried to convince myself to buy a couple of them more than once, but the pinstriping is too much for my tastes, and it looks too hard to remove without wiping away some of the painted trim. Oh well. I've bought at least one copy of every other M2 that I can find so far.
rlyoung1 07-08-2009, 06:58 PM There's 2 Super Bees from release 1 hanging on the pegs at the local Target. Everything else comes and goes but those 2 just keep hanging. There was a blue Road Runner there for awhile also but I guess someone finally bought it.
STUTZ 07-08-2009, 07:39 PM I saw six orange 1954 Dodge Coronets hanging on the peg at a Target. I'll bet someone returned of few of them.
79f150 08-02-2009, 11:14 AM i have seen that target is low on stock of m2 and greenlight. it makes me mad. i hate jl now. greenlight is wayy better! i hope they come back to target! oh and a good place for cheap greenlights is gordmans! they r only 2.99!!!!! i took 2
frankhamil 08-02-2009, 12:51 PM Target is not dropping M2. Ours finished their reset this past week. They have two pegs for regular M2's and 2 pegs for the new M2 Drivers. Both Targets in Lexington got a case of the Drivers this week. No chases, here, though.

astroking2 08-02-2009, 03:47 PM There are plenty of M2s around here also. Targets here just put out several cases. Same goes for Larry's Garage, which they frequently restock.
I love going to Target now because they have so much on the pegs, you just never know what you might find. :hat:
Sorry it is not the same for other people around the country.
Drdealone 08-02-2009, 08:52 PM Can someone please post the Target DCPI # for the New M2 Drivers release?
The number appears on your receipt I think. It is also printed on the shelf tag.
Thanks, DrDeal
dockchecker 08-03-2009, 12:06 PM m2 drivers 087070392
Drdealone 08-03-2009, 04:39 PM Thanks for the DCPI :)
