Larry B 12-07-2009, 04:23 PM I can see the jokes now, somebody hacks the car running the number 8 in the turn, and scarecrow says, 8-ball in the corner pocket....

The racer that takes out the most cars can be called the Q ball.
lidebt2 12-07-2009, 07:01 PM Mike you have you decided on the sportsman 17.5 truck rules package? We need some back-up on the whole ESC issue.
Bill
As Mike says on the website:
Tour Sportsman Trucks / Spec tires & battery / 17.5
Designed for the 'sportsman' racer / Speedo rule
CLASS details posted any day
Check underlined
slotracer577 12-07-2009, 07:34 PM Waiting to see what the rules are before signing up. Planning on bringing two trucks, one for me and one for my nephew, but both have Tekins. So waiting to see on the rules before committing, not going to spend more $$ for speed controls at this point.
John
Blaser 12-07-2009, 08:46 PM What kind of timing and roll out do you run in the 17.5 1c truck class
I'm thinking of running this class
WLMaye 12-09-2009, 04:34 PM Just looked at the expo flyer for the M-class and noticed a ten driver limit is that going to be the same with the 17.5 sportsman truck? I definitely want in on that class, just would hate to limit it to only ten.
Thanks,
Bill

If they EVER come out with the flyer we'll know.
RCThunder 12-09-2009, 05:16 PM Hey guys the limit on the M-class is exclusive to that class... I don't expect it for the trucks. Just working with Alllan and Steve and Chuck flyer might be up in the AM. No big surprises though... should be fun!

TinManSEP 12-10-2009, 01:09 PM Mike, don't you mean "fantastic race WEEK"?
98Ron 12-10-2009, 02:08 PM Tinman, some folks have no sense of time, can you thing of anybody like that???
RCThunder 12-10-2009, 02:33 PM "fun, fantastic 'SPEED WEEK'"!!!
Tinman... this will be your 16th Snowbirds. Thanks BUDDY!
THE DARKSIDE 12-13-2009, 08:56 PM I'd challenge the TOUR, BRL and Snowbirds to consider a ban on the latest generation of speed controls until the end of May 2010. This would be for all oval classes. Let's run the indoor season out with what everybody already owns and between now and then decide what actually makes the most sense to allow in the future. I think that the all of the applicable sanctioning bodies for oval need to also consider adding speedo's to motors and betteries as a piece of equipment that has an approved "rules package" for a year/season at a time. This new speedo issue is not going away in the future, that I can assure you. All we're doing is spending money and running away racers for no good reason. Just because a manufacturer comes out with a new speedo/battery/motor doesn't mean that we all need to run out and drop the cash to have them.
I race because I enjoy the competition and hanging out with the friends that I've made over the years. May of 2010 will mark 20 years that I've been competitively racing 1/10 oval cars. In my opinion, the electronics innovations and the costs associated with them are getting out of control. Think about it, all we really do when the latest speedo/motor/battery generation comes out is to drive away a racer or two at each track in the country. We have enough problems with getting racers to come to races given this economy let alone driving them away with spiraling costs.
I can tell you that he SK KAR rules will most likely be adpoting something very similar to what I've described above for the remainder of their "rules season"
So, TOUR, BRL & Snowbirds, What's it going to be??

Are we going to regulate everything??? Do want every class to be spec racing in some form or another??? Alot of us make our living on the "latest craze" I am one for technology you know when the old Novak controllable speed controls came out everyone said "what are they going to come up with next???" This is what keeps our sport going!!! New things and yes everything is not for everyone some people cannot afford alot of things that make us go faster but this is how it has always been!!! Better chasi, servo and yes speed controls this is how it goes!!! I for one have the new castle coming that I got for the BIRDS this is the only affordable competitive speedo that is out and I will still be lucky to make it in the C main!!! We all know that the best technology only helps the very best be better!!!
Thanks for reading this is only my 2 cents not an argument starter!!!
PREMKRAFT 12-14-2009, 01:09 AM Dimmick...you moron....did you even read my post?? (I mean this with all of the love and respect one fellow racer can have for another.) [don't get nervous everyone....we know each other!! LOL]
I could answer every point you make in every sentence you wrote, but I'd just be copying my first 2 posts on this thread word for word.
But let me try:
"I'd challenge the TOUR, BRL and Snowbirds to consider a ban on the latest generation of speed controls until the end of May 2010." No thanks, doesn't work!! Several reasons not to do this..... see my first 2 posts on MY thread
Let's run the indoor season out with what everybody already owns and between now and then decide what actually makes the most sense to allow in the future. Everyone has something different everywhere, old, new, future, and it changes everyday. There is a good fix for this..... see my first 2 posts on MY thread
I think that the all of the applicable sanctioning bodies for oval need to also consider adding speedo's to motors and betteries as a piece of equipment that has an approved "rules package" for a year/season at a time. All of the applicable sanctioning bodies.....really. Could you list those for me?? TOUR is the only group doing any large scale coordination for oval......and we are not a sanctioning body. Unless we became one. and added an equipment verification team!! Let me check my Inbox...............ooooppps, musta missed something........no applications today. Let me know when any of these other applicable sanctioning bodies for oval come up with an approved speedo spec. I'll wait to hear from you.
All we're doing is spending money and running away racers for no good reason. Yeah.......banning different speedos at each different track will do that. Hey, I have an idea.......see my first 2 posts on MY thread
I can tell you that he SK KAR rules will most likely be adpoting something very similar to what I've described above for the remainder of their "rules season" Cool.......ya want to PM me that rule in its entirety so I can pick in apart piece by piece for you privately, or would you like to start a new thread where I can tear it apart publicly.
So, TOUR, BRL & Snowbirds, What's it going to be?? I'll only answer on behalf of myself PLEASE SEE POST #20 ON THIS THREAD. Start with the part where it say, "Before I exit this thread, I would like you all to know something. The handling of this “crisis”, good or bad, marks the end of my day-to-day involvement with the TOUR........"After reviewing every option availble for over 2 months, the solution I presented is my best effort and it stands as the only reccomendation offered by the TOUR. So use it where you see fit. Ignore it and run an open ESC rule. Or you can come on here and stir everything up so that everyone can come up with their own ideas and we'll all go in different directions. I really don't care. I've done my part.
But if you're interested in a pretty good solution..... see my first 2 posts on MY thread
Take care pal and give my best to Mario, Art, and Grenade!!
RCThunder 12-14-2009, 11:43 AM 'It won't be long before I am looking out the glass elevator at the tiki lights by the pool'.... ahhhh such a truthful email I just received.
Can't wait everyone.. we are a little over a month away until the fun begins. 40+ sponsors, 20+ International drivers, and racers from 18 states already in!

And don't forget to check out this year's Christmas tunes while you surf (on the bird site)....

Metal 12-14-2009, 04:01 PM You and 3 other major race directors are missing the big picture here. ITS NOT ABOUT THE MONEY! I'll say it again, ITS NOT ABOUT THE MONEY!
It is the speeds of the classes. Here comes the daggers. :freak: With these new speedo's many racers no longer have the option to "get in where you fit in". I keep hearing from the 7.5 guys to "man up princess" but those same 7.5 guys also have said that they will drop down to 10.5 mamba. Just as many of you FL racers have done. You 7.5 guys have that option. I don't feel someone as myself with several sponsors belong in the 17.5 truck class. The whole reason single cell lipo was to slow the cars down or did I miss something?
Yes, I did give a honest effort to run 7.5 to simulate 10.5 mamba speeds which I know isn't quite as fast. I have never finished worse then a B-main at the Bird's in the 2 classes that I have run for the past 4 years. I will say that I don't fit in the current 7.5 class or the Mamba 10.5.
Are you and the 3 major race directors going to fault me for my abilities?
Thanks Mike, but just don't seem like the fun will be in it for me this year...........

Echeconnee 12-14-2009, 04:34 PM I think it's racers that keep or hobby going. I also think a lot of people have forgotten that. Are we going to regulate everything??? harmocy 12-14-2009, 04:52 PM I think it's racers that keep or hobby going. I also think a lot of people have forgotten that.
What I am saying is that if the racers that keep the sport going want to purchase the latest and greatest then let them!!!
Here is a great example for you last year I was going to make it my first year at the BIRDS so I bought my tickets far in advance, booked my hotel, and picked my classes I then purchased the latest version of the CRC car that I was going to run. I had my electronics all ready to go. Then the race flyer came out and you know what the only thing you could run was BRUSHLESS I did not even own a brusheless system yet but you know what I had to get them to run!!! At the time I did no even have the cash to purchase 2 systems so thankfully Novak hooked me up and made it happen for me!!! Thanks again Mike and Charlie for that last year!!!
This is how it goes we have to move with the technology!!!
Again I am not arguing I am just bringing up some what I feel is very valid points!!!
Thanks for reading

Echeconnee 12-14-2009, 09:24 PM The birds is the superbowl of the carpet season, no doubt. I really don't have a problem with tech advances, I just thought 10.5 and up was a good place for those advances and that 13.5 and 17.5 should be reserved for the more cost controlled racer as it's not a cheap trip to attend in the first place.

See this is the problem most are having with the classes! The difference between LOCAL Classes and NATIONAL classes!!!!!!! At a local level you can limit any class or all classes! At the National level, Most classes should not be limited........ STEP UP or SHUT UP!!!!!!!!! That is what Big Events are about!!!!!!!!!

Cost controlled????? The Mamba is the cheapest Speed Control on the market right now... when the new LRP and Novak come out they wont be the cheap.
Limit the 17.5 truck class as Steve suggested and run it in everything else, you can't go to a race like the snowbirds and not expect to spend money, that would be like going to Disney with what you'd spend at the county fair. :freak:

True Bill but buying a new one each month could get a touch costly. For me, I do not care and have been running the same original GTB since the beginning.
I agree with spec classes but do not have any better idea how to do it than anyone else.

I don't think there will be a speed control of the month thing going on here... we've never seen any product produce the kind of jump in speed that we've seen with this so anything new from the LRP, Novak or Tekin won't prove to jump speeds that much more. It will more than likely be where it was before the Mamba was introduced to oval racing.
I do believe the speeds are too fast for 13.5 with the introduction of the mamba & AE but I think that would be controlled better by stepping backward a step on motor speed. I also think the sportsman class shouldn't be that far of a leap to got to the next up class. How we get there will become clear in time.
Bill
slotracer577 12-16-2009, 03:36 PM Running both the 17.5 truck and 13.5 this past weekend in Omaha gave me a first hand taste of the speed difference. I ran both classes back to back, first with the slower class first, then reversed. You could really tell the difference.
Right now it was 4 to 6 laps over 4 min. I TQ'd 17.5 at a 47 and was in the D with a 51 in 13.5. I think TQ was a 53 in 13.5. Add 2 more to that and its a huge jump. I think this will be made worse if you limit the speed controls and batteries. I think at this time the tire limit is fine.
I also disagree that you should fix the entry level class to slower ESC's and batteries long term ie next year. Most of the locals in Omaha had already dropped the battery requirement as it is easier to just run the same pack as everyone else, not invest in a pack you will only run for that class. Same with speed controls. Would hate to come into racing and be told, here buy this $100 speed control and then when you want to run up a class you have to buy another speed control.
So in short for next year I agree all classes should be open and then move all the motors down one step. For this year I support the freeze by the BRL to keep up where we were when we started the season.
John

Dude you are so wrong about the 17.5 class. The GTB's, Havok, and the Sphere are going to be selling very cheap and used ones will be everywhere soon. The mod guys are not going to need the 17.5 motors any more. Thats a good chance a nebie could get in the sport cheap. Maybe guys lost with the Switch to BL can finaly return. A returning RC racer could get back in cheap. Or at least our veiw of cheap. Leave 17.5 truck class alone....dont run it if you dont like it. Although I dont mind the idea of changing the battery rule to a common battery so used ones can be purchased.....but let them do that next year when its time.
Yes maybe a change the current wind deal next year after the speedo madness cools down.
But lets not add any new classes and lets keep some stability in the 17.5 truck class.

Won't force them out of the hobby they just won't run pancar and come to the dirt oval side.
Echeconnee 12-16-2009, 10:26 PM Step up or shut up? C'mon Flack, I still can't believe you cherry picked the minreg race 13.5 COT class with a Mamba, lol. The truth be known I cannot afford a 200$ tekin but I can a 100$ mamba so why should I not save a 100$ bill and be competitive I am the little guy that cannot afford the expensive speedo that everyone is running but I can afford the "POWER FOR THE PEOPLE" made by castle!!!
Scarecrow One 12-17-2009, 03:48 PM The Party in "O" Town is 40 days away. Time to see some Ol' Friends and make some new ones. It's the place to be to see new product , meet the drivers you talk to on here. Watch some great racing and have alot of laughs. Where else can you go to play golf, party with a live band, spend sometime at Disney and have your picture taken with the Snowbird Girls.
Oh!!! and also race.
Get'um ready boys and girls.
On the TONE!!!!!!!!
