View Full Version : O/T Demo Derby Pics
craftymore 07-03-2009, 10:57 PM As many on the boards know, I'm a huge demo derby fan. Thus far, I've been to half a dozen demo derbies ranging from central Illinois to southeastern parts of IL plus Cayuga, Indiana. These are the best pics I've take so far. Enjoy.

Been a pretty good derby season so far and we're only about 1/3 of the way through for the year. Last derby around here is in November when Cayuga, Indiana holds their annual Battle At The Border the 1st Saturday of the month. Thanks for looking, had a blast taking all of these pics.

dizzys440 07-04-2009, 01:57 AM Cool pics would love to try it.
triple20 07-04-2009, 11:35 AM Looks like a great time!
We usually go to the demo derby at our county fair every year.
Lummox 07-04-2009, 11:55 AM Crazy action shots! Wow!!!
alex1485 07-04-2009, 12:32 PM poor pink gremlin... destruction derby lawn mowers? now thats pretty southern!
69Stang 07-05-2009, 12:34 AM Those are a BLAST! Thanks for all the great pics, that was fun looking through them all!
rattlehed 07-05-2009, 11:13 AM Love destruction! Thanks for sharing!
BluntFronts 07-06-2009, 02:22 AM For me the fun part is trying to figure out what some of these cars were before they got "modded".
After some careful study, I think that what looks like the "pink Gremlin" was somehow actually an '80s GM F-body. Removing the glass hatch changes the whole look of the car, and after a couple of whacks in the back it's an instant AMC!
Anyway, neat pix. The lawn mower part looks like a hoot 'n' a half!
Lummox 07-06-2009, 05:24 AM BF! Good to see ya.
I was thinking the same way on the pink car - the round gas door is a good clue.
BluntFronts 07-06-2009, 11:11 AM Thanx, Lummox. Good to be back online, after a hectic couple of months kept me away. (Geez, life...go figure.)
Anyway, some of these cars are beyond decoding for me, which is tough for a styling nut to accept! That was one extremely effective demo derby. The pix are really excellent, though. Great action shots.
Lummox 07-06-2009, 11:41 AM I think the white 5M is a late '60s Chrysler and next to it is a '69 to 71 Plymouth.
I think 5F is a '60s Lincoln.
The pink Camaro you can see in a lesser state of "smoosch" in a before shot, before it got turnt into a Gremlin.

Your right Dave on the 5M, it's a '67 New Yorker. The other car in the same pic is a '72 or '73 C-Body also. The 5F is a '66-'69 Lincoln Continental.

Here's Ray Miller's AMC Gremlin that was at Spring Explosion. He took 3rd in the compact class.

The pink car is in fact an '82 and newer Chevy Camaro. They have actually pretty strong front ends. The orange front bumper I believe is from an '80 and newer Crown Vic.

Thanks for all the replies. They are appreciated. Glad you guys liked the pics.
PS: Also posted this vid up on youtube of the compact truck class from Mt. Carmel. It's about 3 minutes long. Ray Miller won that heat. He's like the king of compact drivers here in Illinois.

suckerpunch83 07-06-2009, 03:12 PM Cool pics! I have never been to an actual demo derby, but I have been to hundreds of Enduro races. Are those popular south of the border? We run them on a dirt oval track, set the laps for 200 and let em go! Usually get anywhere between 60-150 cars all at once on the track. There are no yellow flags and the race will only stop if there is a fire, a rollover or if a driver waves a flag to get him out. When the cars die, they sit right there, It creates an obstacle course. There is a big one up here at the end of September. I am the flagman at the local oval and this is by far one of my favorite events of the year!
Al Markin 07-07-2009, 09:44 PM A real nice choice of photos, Damn some of those cars really got murdered???---lol
