Hi everyone! This is my first post and I'm hoping you can help me. I have a toro lawnmower with a tescumsh engine. Last month it just stopped working - like it was out of gas, but it wasn't.

I changed the oil, changed the dirty spark plug and filter. I then noticed some sediment on the bottom of the fuel tank. So, I took it off, cleaned it out so it looks like new and filled with fresh gas.

Now if I push the priming button a dozen or so times it will fire up, run for 1 sec then go dead. I have to fool with it for a couple of mins and it will do the same thing.

I'm an ok car mechanic, but don't have alot of experience with small engines. What else could it be?

Thanks ahead of time.

Time to get into the carburetor and have a look, could have some dirt or build up on the main jet, which is the little nut that holds the float bowl on. Clean it out and look up at the nozzle, there are a couple of O-Rings that may have deteriorated and need replacement.

It it simple be careful taking it apart, inspect, clean and reassemble?

First welcome to the forum;
Here we go;
Clamp off the fuel line, remove the carb bowl, release the clamp to see if you have good fuel flow to the carb, raise the float to see that it shuts off the flow with minimal pressure, clean the junk from the bowl, clean the bowl nut, 2 holes close to the bottom and a tiny one about midway up(I usually use the wire from a twist tie), spray all holes, cracks and crevases with brake parts cleaner, reassemble and you should be good to go. If this didn't work it will be probably be necessary to rebuild the carb. If I missed something one of the real mechanics will post to help further. Refer to the photo below. Have a good one . Geo
