View Full Version : One disappointing thing about the Mummy?

Don't get me wrong I still think this is a great kit and worth every penny but maybe it's just me but does anyone else think the shape of the sarcophagus lid was better on the mock up we saw a while back and the Janus one?

It's mainly to do with the headress around the well sculpted Karloff face. I can't help thinking the bottom of the headress sticks out a bit too much now and I know mummy sarcophagus's weren't made with precision but if you look at the bottom of the headdress the right side doesn't match up with the left very well. Also I think the top of the headdress is a bit too flat whereas the Janus one looked more rounded and in my eyes more pleasing to the eye.

I know it might sound like nitpicking but I thought the mock up and the Janus one just looked better in these areas and as far as overall shape goes.

I'd have to say that, even though the Moebius Mummy plainly looks a lot like the Janus kit, the $40 mass-produced plastic model is going to come up short when compared side by side with a limited and scarce $250-plus resin classic. Not by much, though. Gabriel Marquez did an amazing job of creating a sophisticated, detailed sculpture despite the limitations of plastic injection molding.

As for your specific points about the headdress, I hadn't noticed them and am not bothered by them. In fact, I find it more visually appealing that the bottom doesn't line up exactly.

I don't remember the specifics of the early photos. Sometimes these kinds of changes have to be made at the factory to make a workable mold. Couldn't tell you if that was the case with the Mummy.

Well said Todd...The only thing I find disappointing with this kit is the fact that I only bought 2, you see I'm building one out of the box and bashing the other one (I'm doing the latter first) and I need one MIB for my collection and a couple for gifts...so now I"m on the hunt at my LHS...

I like the Moebius one pretty well. I don't have the Janus one to compare to. But I took this comparison shot with the Dark Horse one. What a difference! The Moebius one looks more like an outer sarcophagus, while the DH one is undersized (the figures are almost the same size), it looks like an inner sarcophagus. I'm having trouble finding my copy of The Mummy. I wanted to see what it looked like in the movie. Logically, Imhotep's mummy would be lying inside of the inner sarcophagus, but it's movie logic and I wanted to see how these compared to the movie prop.

btw, getting some incremental progress on painting the sarcophagus. It's fun, but slow going:

I don't think it's a case of the Moebius one coming up short as it's a superb kit and very well sculpted, just like the Janus one and the mock up we saw.

It's just to my eyes I prefer the shape of the sarcophagus on those 2.

I'll be buying at least 2 as well.
