View Full Version : Archiving How-To's
dipstick 06-29-2009, 06:00 PM Hey Guys -
As you know the layout doesn't allow the addition of a "sub-folder" system, so as an alternative; I am going to start archiving the How-To's directly to Hot World Customs (www.hotworldcustoms.com (http://www.hotworldcustoms.com)) - it will build the content there and allow folks to have virtually everything they need to know at their finger tips.........
I will post a sticky at the top with the LINK to the Archive once things start moving..........
WHAT I NEED FROM YOUS FOLKS - are the links to the strings you think should be moved - some of the content is there, others are new and have not. If you want to start posting them below, I will get them moved over as time allows - working on another large project and the Holiday is playing in here so timing will be gradual. Please be patient.
Additionally, I am always looking for new ideas and thoughts on layout, organization, etc for Hot World so please let me know.
Thanks for the help guys!!

I have some new ones in the works and also 3 or 4 ongoing Build Tutorials that I'll add to the list when finished.
HobbyTalk has really taken over the Internet as the place Customizers come to for Customizing information and interaction with others who enjoy our Hobby.
I'm glad to see something finally come together to compile all the valuable information here into a single Customizing Library.

dipstick 06-30-2009, 07:44 AM XX - Got yours all ready but thanks for the double check.
Ward - I am going to try to put something that would be a quick reference up as well as the main link.
This is going to take some time and need to be balanced with ANOTHER project.... ;)
bob8748 07-01-2009, 12:53 AM Pat, thanks for thinking of me but I'm more of a learner then a contributer. This is a really cool thing coming together though!!!
Its got me thinking. I have this old Matchbox Vette that a friends kids found (looked dug up) in my yard and gave me a few years ago. I cleaned out the dirt and kept it as is. This is a prime candidate for all of the above. Glass, tires and wheels... etc. That Badger brush was ordered last weekend. A couple of pieces of hardware to hook things up and I plan to "go where I have never been before!"
Thanks guys for all the little tips and tricks and a whole lot of info.
Ya know... with a little luck

Good looking wheels Stang!!! For us jittery people, try chucking that wheel up in a drill, if possible. Turn the drill on a slow spin and touch your paint pen to the wheel.May be a little easier to paint and give you a smooth line with a little practice. I use to paint pine wood derby wheels this way. The drill method was also great for painting the spokes and leaving the black for depth. As the drill spun the wheel, the paint pen would touch only the high ridge of the spokes...RM

Simple. Stripped, shot with rattle can red primer (looks brown). Then shot with Krylon X-Metals. In this case blue. I didnt let the blue totally cure, patience is not my best thing. Wet sand with 1000 grit. Let the paint/water mix fill and settle into door lines and panel resets, gives a hint of what the original color was. The more you wet sand the more primer or "rust" you pull out. I dont know how well it held up. I didnt have any clear coat at the time. But if anyone is into making old wrecks in junk yards, give it a try. I see a few spots where I sanded a little too much. Some is light reflection.
