HWs custom 53 chevy. I left the paint stock, and practiced detailing with a tooth pick and silver paint (not one of my better efforts). Painted the clear hood to match the car and added some center caps.

All in all not to bad for a quicky. Might strip it and redo it. This casting has a lot of flaws, but what HW doesn't.

PSSSSSSSSSST - Bob ................ Sharpie Silver pens...........

One of the best inventions in a long time! I always hated painting the small stuff silver. With the pen, it is now quick, fun and fairly easy.

I usually use paint pens, but some times you have to try something different. Even if it's a boo-boo lol.

No criticism Bob - My likely. Just passing on the knowledge - the silver metallic Sharpie is actually more like a pen than a paint marker. Very easy to control, the fine tips allow serious detail.........

No offense taken Dip. Actually the car doesn't look to bad in hand, it's the macro setting on the camera that really brings out the flaws.

I've decided to strip it and start over. I cut the top off last nite so I can install one of your Carson Tops.

Decided to go the distance on this one. She will be a full on 50's custom cruiser.

I've chopped the top and fitted a custom Carson top. So now it's time for the stripper and JB weld and lots of sanding.

This is what she looks like now

Is that top from another casting or is it hand made?

The top came from Mini-Motors Inc. They used to make and sell custom die cast parts.

Hey Guys....
Let me give Youz a warning on the Sharpie Silver Pens, they're OK for touch ups..But they will not stay on "permanently" unless You detail, then clear coat..Which then dulls the silver to a gray...For real they just about rub right off as fast as you apply them(plus they spread from you handling, all over your paint job and alcohol is required). Trust me,,,chrome foil or #00 paint brush and a silver paint is better.

Jeff - that is odd as I have done about 50 JLs and never experienced that. You need to let it dry certainly, but I have never experienced that.

What have you been suing them on?

I primarily airbrush with nailpolish, and use to detail the trim around the windows, door handles, and other silver things with them Sharpies, then I began to notice that within minutes and some handling the marker wears off..
I'd have to say skin oil most likely the cause.

That could be but, like any paint, it needs to set. I generally let mine sit for at least a day to dry. I have not experienced what you reference except when it has not dried properly.

I will agree that it gets a duller appearance once clearcoated, but nothing dramatic on my end.

I found that out, and I found that Wal-mart clearcoat and Future Floorwax both cause runs and bleeds...
