The car question always opens a can of worms. Your best bet is to purchase a used car that is of the same type that many others are running at your track. That way you'll always have someone who can lend a hand or loan you a part. If you you already know an experienced racer at your track get together with him and ask if he'll help you find some good used equipment in the swap and sell of this site. There are great deals everyday.

As for the motor battery combo you should get what you can race locally. You can scroll down and check out the "TOUR" rules page in the oval section here of Hobbytalk. Hopefully most tracks will be adopting those rules this winter.

Where are you planning to race, if I may ask?

Thats great advice. Buy something that everyone else is running at your track and you'll always have help in setting up your car.

Shoot a private message to Joe Meyers. His handle is "swtour". He runs a series in CA and I'm sure he could point you to the right guys to speak with in your area.
