I am working on reposing my Iron Man kit to look like the one Yasutoshi showed us in this picture of his conversion work :

But I really don't like the base that came with the kit since it doesn't look like anything in particular to me. So I want to make some sort of simple but appropriate Aurora-style base to put the figure on. But now my mind keeps going blank as to what kind of base to make.

I might put him on a floor with a wall he's blasting through, sort of like the Aurora Superman kit. But what would I have his upraised foot resting on?

If I have him standing outside of a building wall he can be resting his foot on a big rock, or else a slope away from the wall.

If he's inside the building blasting out, I don't know why he would have his foot up in the air. But I really like the pose so I need to think of something.

Or I can just have him standing with only slight changes to his leg positioning, but keep the arm up, hand aiming a repulsor ray. If I do this, what kind of base would I use? Indoor? Outdoor?

Anybody have some ideas they would like to share? If I don't come up with something both simple and effective, I will just use the base that came with the kit.

Thanks!

How about having Iron Man standing on a dead enemy, maybe surrounded by some machinery in a cave.

You might be able to use part of the base from the Spiderman kit for the dead guy and scratch build machines.

I think Mark McGovern did some generic stone or dirt bases.

CultTVman carries a base for the Moebius kit. It won't work with the raised leg pose but would if you went with the other pose.

You could make a weapon crate and stencil the Stark Industries logo on it.

the beauty is, the crate can be any dimension, so you can build it to match the raised leg.

I love the Stark crate idea. It really plays into the movie too!

I think I know what I will end up doing.

I have begun mocking up a base using some spare parts, and changing Iron Man's pose using tape to position the arms and legs. I have cut off or just not used all of the original sub-assembly connectors, except fot those on the feet, and at the moment, those at the wrists.

I have some plasting bricks for gardening that I bought for model bases, so I can fasten two together and putty the gap. I also have both I-beams left over from the Aurora Superman kit, but no bricks for them. For the base I will have what looks like a square bit of ground, and I will add some sheet styrene on both sides of the I-beams to look like Iron Man has blasted open a wall with his repulsor ray. First I will get the base mocked up better, and use some paper for the styrene to get a feel of how well it will look.

Using these parts for a base, I will not raise his leg, but have just moved it forward a little. This has both feet flat on the ground, but it does give a feeling of movement to the figure, which is missing from the stock pose. I am raising the right arm and moving the hand so that the repulsor faces the wall. I am moving the left arm back just a little also.

I also have a leftover Aurora Captain America shield, which looks like a good size to go with Iron Man. And a plastic pistol and automatic rifle that look ok with the scale as well. I just don't know where to put them so that they make sense in the scene, but I would like to include them on the base. I might have to add one more of the plastic bricks to the base to make room. Perhaps that will give me an idea.

Maybe I can use the idea of an SI crate and have it open to show these items, and a sign saying something about this being a testing area.

I have to finish the mockup first and see if it looks better with or without the parts. I might use something else for him to stand on, looking like an inside floor instead of the ground surrounding a building. If I do this, I can mount the shield and guns on the wall, or add a second right to make it look like he's standing in the corner of a room. I might also cut apart the gears of the original base and use at least the small part as the nameplate for the model, as it was intended to be.

After I get my finished mockup ready I will post a pic or two. Since I'm not working too often on it, it will probably be a couple of days. The good news is, once I have committed to what I have mocked up, I can get to glueing and puttying!
