I finally get to add something of interest to this thread. Saw this R8 while driving out to shoot a Packard I saw. This was as close as i could get to it without looking like I was trying to run the car off the road.
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg175/zeb41/2010/000_1100.jpg

Here's that Packard I found. I don't know Packards very well, but I believe it's a '50. I saw it at a muffler shop the day before and just had to go back to collect a few shots of it. You can't see it too well, but the wood dash was in beautiful shape. The interior, which looked to be original was very nice too. Heck, the keys were even in it, and seeing them instantly produced some devilish thoughts.

Cool Pakard Zeb!
Those Pakards were from '48 to '50. I can't tell them apart!
They are considered the least disirable Packards next to the "Packardbakers".

I love the interiors of cars from that era...especially the mohair smell!!!

Great Packard pix, and the Audi, too, which is my favorite current car.

I can see why those Packards weren't very popular: I think they made the central grille way too small.

I especially like your shot of the hood ornament; it reminds me of Ultraman or Johnny Sokko's Robot.

And yeah, that color....wow.I agree completely. I'm pretty sure I could be happy with one of these as my only car for the rest of my life. It has a huge dose of the all-important PLF: "Parking Lot Factor"; you know, when you're walking up to it at a restaurant or after work or something and the car makes you proud to own it. (That was one of the best things about owning a '65 Riv.) I'm guessing this one is a '67, because of the grille bar, but I haven't looked it up yet. I forgot to check the taillights when I was there.

Nice plow on the Lincoln! :) Needs chains though.I know - I wondered how those skinny radials were going to get enough traction. It's got the necessary tonnage, though!

BluntFronts

We've probably talked about this before BF, I had a '65 Riv too and allways thought it was one of the all time most perfct designs.
But lately there's just something about those '66 - '67 rivs. They're allmost better in some respects. They're just so dad-gum smooooooth!

BluntFronts

I don't remember talking about them. But then again, my brain is like a sieve. My '65 was white w/ black interior. Non-GS. What was your color combo?

I loved driving it, and walking up to it in the lot. I always parked in different places so I could have different views when I walked toward it. But I had to sell it when I moved to CA (too many cars.) What happened to yours?

I always thought the same thing; '63-'65 is just about perfect. They best version I ever saw was a lightly customized '63 in Las Vegas on which the guy had put the headlights vertically behind the clear fender grilles, and used a '65 grille in the middle. That way he got the sleeker '63 fender tops with the wide open grille, plus headlights under glass. It was even more perfect than the factory versions. (I can't believe I didn't have my camera that day!)

But to me the '66-'67 is like Mitchell took the same styling ideas as the '63-'65, and then just pushed them all further in every direction. Luckily they decided to make it bigger, too, so it all evened out and the whole thing got that much smoother. And it took automotive design to a whole new level.

It's just about the next best thing to a bona fide 1960s dream car for the streets. (Maybe the '67 T-bird is close.)

Too bad Chrysler never took the plunge and made a mid-60s Riv/Toro/T-bird fighter - I can only imagine what that would've been like!

Mine was white too!!! But the interior was lite blue metalicish vinyl. Non GS too.I know that color. Long ago I had a "stripper" '63 Riv (manual windows & locks; the only option was the dash-mounted headlight dimmer!) that was blue/blue. Sold it to my cousin for $700.

I loved driving mine too. That 401 4bbl had some wicket yank!!!!! It was a rust bucket mostly in just the floor areas. I was still in high school but I managed to patch it all up very nicely with rivets - didn't weld back then. I ended up trading it and another car for a fairly nice '71 boat tail Riv.Sounds cool. My '65 had the usual rust hole on the bottom rear of the front fender, and one headlight door that preferred manual operation. I had a fantasy to turn a '63-'65 into a convertible. (Barris did make a targa back in the '60s. I saw it in a Perry Mason episode.) The only tough part about the cvt idea is that the trunk bulges up where it meets the rear edge of the roof. It's probably best for everyone involved that I don't know how to weld, though. BTW, I still have a white '71 boattail that's been in storage for about ten years. I hope to drive it again this summer.
Had no idea the fender tops were different on the '63s...how are they different? I gotta czech that out! That custom sounds like a real looker! So the headlights were behind the parking light lenzes? So cool.I hope I didn't spoil this for you. Once seen, it can't be unseen. But they had to mod the '65's front fender tops to make room for the doors to retract upward. So the leading edge profile of the fender is less elegant than on the '63/'64. You know so much about cars that I was hoping you already knew about this difference. (I kind of resented the guy who pointed it out to me, at least for awhile!) So...sorry about that.

But yeah, the headlights were behind clear parking light lenses with the chrome ribs intact, which I guess he must have made himself, because stock ones aren't actually clear, right?
The modded headlight look was beautiful, but technically they were illegal, since covered headlights were still illegal back then.

I'm glad you and zeb41 like it. Unfortunately the owner hasn't responded to my note yet. Which is also good, because I sure don't need another car. But, of course, need and want are two different things.

I know how he probably feels, though; whenever I would buy a "new" car or get my current one freshly painted, that was when people would leave notes wanting to buy it. But that was exactly when I didn't want to sell it!

That LaSabre is in really nice condition and I think he was asking less than $4000.00 for it. I think it had $3600 0r s0 on the windshield. I don't know the year of that truck. I don't know the differences between a '58 and a 59 Apache, and all the dealer has it listed as is Model: Apache, Color: Wight. I figure that since he doesn't know how to spell WHITE, he probably won't know the year either. This guy always finds really cool stuff for his lot. He's got a '59 Fairlane and a "60 Ford pickup in a fenced off area behind his building. Two years ago he had a '54 Coronet and a '39 Buick Special four door sedan. I wanted that car Sooooooo bad! It was in unbelievably great shape. I didn't have 6K for it though. He has one other car there right now that I would love to park my rear end in. This '60 Caddy from Nevada. I wanted a good three-quarter view from the front, but there wasn't room to get it, so here's a profile shot and some details. There is just so much that is cool about the design of this car!

That '39 Buick was soo cool. It was only one of two that i have seen in my lifetime. The first one I saw was at Lightning Fest in Oak Brook, 2005. I didn't even know what the car was when I saw it. All I knew was that I was crazy over it. The front end on those '39s is gorgeous! The car I saw here did not have side mounted spares. In fact, I don't think either of them did.
