A couple of weeks ago Mrs. 54b and I "stole" the beach house away from the kids for a few days of end-of-summer R&R on Cape Cod Bay. These photos were take on one afternoon's drive...

The Buzzards Bay Railroad Bridge lowered for a train to cross the Cape Cod Canal.

It is a railroad bridge. Back about 1984 My 2 year old daughter and myself got to ride in a diesel engine across it. There was a scenic railroad company at the time. It owners were using all the state money for themselves instead of fixing the tracks. State found out and it folded soon after.

Not so. The tracks were owned and well-maintained by Bay Colony Railroad from 1981 until their lease ran out in 2006 and its operation was overseen by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The original Cape Cod and Hyannis Railway on which you rode with your daughter (and I with my family) just operated the scenic railroad cars and its route and as a company dissolved in 1988. The Cape Cod Railroad formed in 1989 and ran the scenic railroad until that company went out of business in 1997. The present Cape Cod Central Railroad began in 1999 and has become one of the leading Dinner and Scenic trains in the country. As of 2006 the owners of Cape Cod Central Railroad outbid Bay Colony for ownership of the tracks themselves. The Railroad bridge is operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers as is the Canal.

For anyone visiting the Cape this is a fun ride through some very beautiful countryside and scenic seashore vistas. The trip is worth the price of admission and the Dinner train is rated as one of the country's best.

Here's the link for the Cape Cod Central Railroad: http://www.capetrain.com/

WOW there CJ. Must be nice not having neighbors complaining. Can't wait to see the rest.
When my aunt bought her property out near Bozeman back in 97-98 she had a few cars in a barn and offered them to me. If I wanted them, the only one worth saving (at least to a 18 year old kid) was a 49 Merc 4dr but I could not afford the transportation to New York. :(

Almost all of the vehicles in this pasture
looked they had been brought in, the windows rolled up,
and walked away from. wait until you see the Cars!

God what a thing of beauty.
Don't you wish they made new cars that looked like that? (...but were safe, reliable and had all the modern technology)

ok first and foremost the first picture is of a truck from the company that i work for. alright now these get interesting cause they all belong to the same guy, Bob Killian, he owns several tire shops and a hardware store in Hickory all on the same road and i kept noticing all the outbuildings a couple of weeks ago so i drove by real slow today and there were old cars everywhere!!!! i would've gotten closer on the model-t's? and firetrucks but Mr. Killian is kind of notoriously known to be a bit of an accentric so i tried to keep a little distance.

PWSchuh and Lumm thanks i would have never guessed that in a million years, even though if i had gotten out i probably could have read it on the back of the car ;), it's a shame its REALLY REALLY rusty but at least its on blocks. here is a borrowed pic of a nicer one
http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee115/cih1979/morrisminor.jpg
That corvair van i'm telling ya is one of literally 6 or 7 behind that building, it was like a corvair graveyard, there was even one in a garage that i could see but i was scared of snooping around for too long, i didnt have permission to take any of those pictures. I might go back and try to butter up Mr. Killian and see if i can take better pictures, especially if i have my 2 year old with me he will know i am not up to no good, and maybe he can appreciate a fellow car nut.

Just a little Dragnet FYI, the Morris Minor was often used as a police vehicle back in the 50's and 60's. And yes, it was a two door police car!
