I have a old john deere 111,30 inch deck,I think,It has three belts on it,how do you measure it,side ways ,or front to back-12 hp,leaking oil,crankcase needs gasket,can I just take everything off the moter,and ,take the nuts, off it ,and just take it off-or do I have to remove some of the pulleys off from the bottom,and take all of the bolts out that are holding the 12,h.p. briggs down,moter was replaced on the tractor once before,I just joined a couple of weeks ago ,and I never worked on one before,I'M 55,and not in the best of shape anymore,Major back problems,So -PLEASE BEAR WITH ME-I know some young buck can help me.Does anyone have any repair,rebuild ,-- manuals,for the 12 HP.or the John Deere.--John Deere-111,-MOO111S-306035----BRIGS 12 HP.--283707-0217-01-91100111-Sorry so long,wanted to get all the info to you--- Thanks, Joseph

Length and width.
Drain the oil first. Remove the motor from the mower. Will probably have to remove the pulley on the crankshaft also. Throttle cable, fuel line and any electrical connections will have to be disconnected. Before removing the crankcase cover you may want to check the bolts to see if they are not just loose. I would be glad to help you in person if you were a little closer.

Dean,I think i can swing this repair myself,i have a cherry picker on my 1975 chevy p.u. thanks for reply-The problem is removeing the moter-I have removed everything from the moter-the crankshaft has a bolt on it ,right below the PTO,do I have to remove the PTO to get the moter out,I'm replacing the gasket on the crankcase-I have to remove this --bolt-- right,crankcase -Thats what I call it -,it's leaking bad,all over the belt and pulley, also I'm replacing the seal om the bottom of the moter,got full set of seals,got wrong info,from another guy,said i would not have to get under moter-- not from this site-- Thanks Joseph.

Usually the pulley (PTO) on the crank has to be removed in order to pull the motor off. When replacing the crankcase cover make sure everything lines up before torquing the bolts.
