Is the chrome Iron Man Mark II kit the exact same kit as the first issued Iron Man kit?

I mean, are the only differences between these two kits that the new kit is chromed and has decals for rivets?

And speaking of chromed kit parts, we know that there is almost always chips missing from the chrome because of the connection points on the sprue. When the part is removed, however carefully, there will still be many little spots that don't look right because you can't match the chrome for touchup.

Is there a reason that the sprue's connection points could not be designed to be on the backside of the kit parts? For example, I see all the male/female connectors on the parts of the Iron Man kit for snapping the parts together, and I think if the kit was to be chromed, the sprue connectors would have been better made to be like the male connectors on the parts. When the part is removed from the sprue, then the chromed face of the kit part would stay perfect, and assembly would produce a much more satisfactory model.

Does anybody know if this sprue design is or is not feasible?

The chrome kit is not molded in red styrene instead it is molded in clear styrene so the sprue attachment points will be almost invisible if the parts are cut off the trees carefully..
The kit parts are molded in the same tools as the Red kits. No real difference vetween the two kits except for the chrome plated finish and the sheet of rivet decals...

That's great! I hadn't thought about it, but since the chrome is added to the sprue after it is complete anyway, a clear sprue would allow for the connection points to be a lot easier to hide.

Thanks Dave!:)

That sounds cool now my only concern if it is molded in chrome is the head going to be put together side to side like the red plastic version or hopefully got retooled and will be able to put together from front to back so no seams what do you guys think ?

Further up in this thread, Dave stated that it's made from the exact same mold as the red version. No changes other than the chrome plating, base plastic color & added decals.

I think you will be getting the same head....retooling is expensive.you can allways re chrome the head with Alcad or other similar product.

my own low rent solution would be to take a tiny strip of the silver light blocking duct tape and cover the seam with that.

So does anyone have pics of a completed Mark II, painted chrome, like the movie/box?

That's my next build after the Mark III.

Isn't the clear plastic a bit more brittle? The type of plastic as in aircraft canopies and auto windsheilds is a different type of plastic that cracks and splinters if not careful.

So we can remove the chrome plating and have a transparent Iron Man?

Sure.......If you have something that will remove the plating and laquer without screwing up the cleear styrene........No guarantees that it'll look wonderful when you strip off the plating....
