That's the title held by long time r/c racer NIC CASE of Southern California.

Case who has been perfecting his "NEED FOR SPEED" for several years, can often be found racing on the High Banked ENCINO VELODROME with our South-West Tour Series where he currently holds the SPEED RECORD in almost every class we've run in the past few years. (Except NASTRUCK)

Nic set a blistering pace at last weeks SWTour series race in the spec 21.5/LIPO class, which paces laps at speeds around 52 MPH.

These speeds however are like a slow Sunday drive for Case who is use to wheeling THIS rig at much higher speeds..

sounds like it cud be a fun project!! 170mph sounds like a blast on a velodrome with a pan car!!! :)

If dale epp had some free time im sure he wouldnt mind help'n design an aerodynamic enough oval body to help with that problem! :)....Would for sure have to be a custom re-designed pan car tho with more areodynamics in mind from the ground up, plus a little different suspension than people are used to seeing. If work slows down i might have a velodrome pancar project.

(this is prolly one of the only things i've ever aggreed on with Kat! ;)lol.. A pan car should hold the speed record on an oval!)

The speed record car is not an oval car, its says Nic is usually races oval on the southwest tour. The speed record car is a straightline race car, much like the old budweiser rocket back in the day, it looks to be modelled after.

Yes im aware of that, I just think it would be cool to see a pan car run over 170 on an oval. And kinda still resemble an oval pan car. I think i've seen 70+mph on a carpet oval before that was only prolly just about 200ft runline & flat... so with a velodrome style track and a specifically designed car/body/etc it would be possible.

See if John could make some special tires.
Design a gear diff.
Machine out a tub chassis with ground effects.
Custom body.
4S batts.
4S speedo.
2.5 motor.

170 at Indy priceless!

Probably not possible there, but if you could turn a 120 lap with something kinda resembling a pan car it'd be pretty cool.

we'd have to figure out which is the smoothest velo in the country & use that one i would think.

I have been building a pan car for the speed run at the indy velodrome coming up. I will post pictures in the next coming weeks. The only problem i think we will have is tires. This has been the issue everytime somebody does a run.

If I was going to try to set a closed course (VELO) record - I'd probably do it where the current record is... The VELO in Japan where the WORLDDROME is held... SOOO SMOOOTH

If it was for US Record, maybe the VELO in Chicago - it's asphalt instead of wood or concrete but it's about DOUBLE in size of the INDY drome. (And was paved by the guys who paved the INDI MOTOR SPEEDWAY.)

Our CA velo is SHORT, it's only 826 ft in the run line. Top average speed is 85+ and top straight speed is about 100 +/-

NIC is one of the most sponsored guys I know...he gets stuff from ANYONE who wants to see him GO FAST- and he's tried the VELO Land Speed Record with a PAN CAR and he's really close to having the U.S. record I believe.

He has the ability to drive ANYTHING that will make him "The FASTEST" and he's got a lot of support from Schumacher, and his FASTEST VELO run (is not the same Mi3) is in a SHUEY!

I'd love to see ANY car on a 200ft OVAL track of ANY KIND run 70 MPH "AVERAGE" for a lap.

That would require a SUB 2 second lap time, and would probabl require 110+ MPH on the short straight aways, with speeds dipping into the 40-45 MPH range in the turns.

MOST of the FASTEST R/C Dragsters barely go over 100 ft. per second (132 ft in 1.3 seconds or so) and they DON'T have to be set up to turn.

Kat as anyone who tried to go about 120 mph it just isn't that easy. It becomes increasily difficult as you increase about that for RC cars. If you want to sponsor the effort I have a dream, LOL

CHALLENGE

Here's a CHALLENGE for you guys who THINK you can go faster than 160+ with a OVAL PAN CAR

I (in the name of the South-West Tour Series) Joe Myers, will PAY $100.00 CASH to THE FASTEST "OVAL" Pan Car (who is OVER 160 MPH) at the ISC's Straight Line SPEED CONTEST at the California Speedway (Now known as Autoclub Speedway) in FONTANA, the 2nd weekend of NOVEMBER~

The has to be a OVAL type pan car chassis and body!~ It HAS to be ELECTRIC

YOU can choose HOW many LIPOS and What motor - but it has to be a OVAL TYPE Car and Body (HS Velo Bodies ok)

SUB Challenge - $50.00 to ANYONE who can BREAK Nic Case's SPEED RECORD with any 1/10th Electric Car -

ANY CHASSIS
ANY MOTOR
ANY BATTERY
But the car MUST fit into the ISC's 1/10th rules classifications (what ever those are, I have no idea!)

MORE information on the ISC's Speed Challenge will be coming soon - and their website is

The 2s lipo 3.5's we ran in nebraska at the BRL race last year made the old 6cell mods look like 6cell stocks as well!! I think if there was a large enough carpet track maybe 300ft runline you cud see close to 100mph on carpet!

lol, dont insult racers by offering 100 bucks to go 160+... Its not about $ at all!! It would just be something neat to do!!!... I said it can be done but it would take a completely custom car/wheels, and custom body, (alota design time). & the cost to build something like that if someone were to outta pocket the whole deal would prolly be well over 5g's!..
I'll build something when i have free time but it will prolly be over the winter and ready for next summer!..
(and it'll be on an oval not a drag strip)

Frank,

My 'INSULT' would just be a little extra added BONUS to the driver who can achieve this, because if someone CAN go that fast - they WILL also get a "WORLD RECORD" certificate from the ISC, along with the other Awards and Prizes that come with THAT event, plus the magazine article coverage (This event WILL be covered by at least 3 of the RC Mags).

TALK is CHEAP! At least I'm willing to PAY a little for someone can BACK IT UP~

NOTE: At this time, I have NO vested interest in the ISC (International Speed Challenge) events, nor is it one of MY events.

Bring something - beat it!!

My only goal is to challenge others to try to BEAT HIM -- somebody has to have what it takes!!

He CAN'T continue to keep WINNING THESE things and setting NEW Records every year.

Take it for what it's worth!!!

....oh and getting the WORD out about SPEED CHALLENGE EVENTS, is a goal too!

Not to sound like an azzhole but i dont think a whole lot of people that know what they're doing have even attempted to build a record setting mph car. I just know close to 100mph is possible on the right size flat oval so i dont see the big deal about 170 or so on a track 4 times that big with banking and a custom built oval car from ground up!.. Throw enough money and engineering at the project i dont see a prob with 200mph!

Frank - azz or not doesn't really matter. The ISC (International Speed Challenge) group is on a mission to find SPEED FREAKS who are just that. Engineers with ideas on HOW TO GO FAST. REALLY Fast!!

Currently they plan to hold at least ONE Straight Line and ONE Closed Course Speed Challenges a year, and hopefully they can make it grow from there, and they can do events all over the country.

This was something started in the U.S. by Radio Controlled Car Action Magazine, but they kind of dropped the ball, and another organization has tried to pick up the pieces and make these events bigger.

They will most likely NEVER draw big numbers of entries - and due to time constraints more than 50-60 entrants would probably suck anyway.

However, in talking to their organizers, they have some big thoughts, and big plans!!

Several of these guys are friends of mine, and I will do what I can to help them get the word out.

sounds like a cool deal!.. My schedule is so crazy lately tho i doubt i would be able to attend one of the events any time soon. Im going to design and build a car but i will probably end up taking it to the smoothest & largest velo i can find in my spare time. I dont care about the mag coverage or anything like that, i just want to do it for myself to see if it can be done. when it happens i'll make sure theres other racers present with vids & radar guns to verify it all for anybody with doubts.

Most of the guys who have attempted have come up against 3-4 major hurdles (along with some small ones)

Radio Range
Line of Sight
Keeping TIRES on the wheels (over 80mph)
Keeping the car on the ground (over 80mph)

Closed Courses are cool cause you can roll into your speed - but the CORNERS make it a whole nuther challenge

The ISC event will be using SPEED TRAPS (Laser I believe) as they found FUNS to be inaccurate at the super high speeds.

Personally, I want to see what guys like YOU who are known to go FAST...can build! (Whether or not it's at an official ISC event) because it will spark others to build FAST stuff too!!

I agree that it would be pretty cool to have a large intrest in the speed run cars but as you mentioned the hurrdles are probably alot more to over come than alot of people want to mess with... I understand all the obsticals that will be involved thats why it will take some time to get everything together. Also with some luck and some nagging, lol hopefully i can some mfg's to help out with some of the custom parts the car would need to run those kind of numbers. It's not going to happen this summer but im gonna get going on this project once fall hits between carpet races. I'll have something together before the end of carpet season, hopefully around the time of the snowbirds so people can check it out at the race.
