View Full Version : K11 DAF cartransporter TRANSITIONAL SF
SMS88 06-18-2009, 07:28 AM Also from the box on the other thread is this uncommon SF DAF in the regular wheels final issue orange-red (like no 8 Mustang not brighter orange) trailer, unpainted tractor baseplate (not metallic red),blue tinted (not clear)windows and DAF stickers. The 1971 Lesney catalog shows a regular wheels example with silver hubs, clear windows and the white/orange checker sticker designed to replace DAF sponsership.
Its playworn and I am very happy to have filled this important gap in my collection of transitional superfast history. Does anybody else have any of these DAFs to share loaded up?

SMS88 06-19-2009, 07:26 PM Wonderful catalog pix from Mountain, seeing redlines and Matchbox side by side as they were when many of us were children:wave:
In the 2nd picture, the gold car on the highest point at the back of the top deck of the trailer - I cannot identify it - it looks like a Vauxhall Guildsman from Matchbox but they never made it in gold.......The white interior dark blue Iso Grifo is a very rare issue indeed, so perhaps these could be salesamples and that really is a gold Guildsman with orange windows????
great pic and full of some awesome cars to

I spotted that immiediately too, looks like a Guildsman to me!
Maybe some Hotwheels nut can verify that it's not a HWs car.
Nice pics, Mountain!

Nice pics, Mountain!
There were no Hotwheels with orange windows in the Redline era as far as I know - the cars in this pic date it as 1971 or 1972, and the wish book may just be a Sears Christmas catalog???
The Moutain 06-20-2009, 07:54 PM good eye. definitely the guildsman. a lot of the sears catalogs showed the disc wheel superfast.
i wonder what you got if you ordered them through the sears catalog ?:)

I guess the catalog was produced about 6 months before they actually shipped the toys ready for christmas. The Guildsman was released in 1971, although the other early models shown in the pic were from 1969 & 1970, so perhaps Mountain has the christmas 1970 catalog as the source for these pictures?
The fact that the Guildsman has silver disc wheels implies that these are prototypes of the small wide wheels.I havent seen these catalog photos discussed over on that other American forum in the past 4 years so either they havent noticed it yet,or they discussed it years before I was ever online.......and Christian Falkensteiner doesnt have this colour on his photo database either......its always nice to find photographic evidence of Lesney colour trials which were sufficiently approved to be used for publicity pictures. Pink with green windows is a very long way from gold with orange:wave:
Mountain, please do share some more Sears disc wheels cars ads!
Lummox 06-21-2009, 09:18 AM Disc wheels? These are all chrome center prototype wheels without the 'mag' type indents?
mookie427 07-12-2009, 06:47 PM wow, thats the first time I've ever seen one of those gold Guildsmans..and those enamel colours on the Redlines are fantastic

Well I hadnt noticed those yellow enamel redline Dodge Chargers before ;)- it looks like Sears had enough pull with Lesney and Mattel to get colour trial samples from the factory for catalog pix.I hope Mountain will return soon with more catalog pages and further info about these familiar castings in previously unseen or mega rare colours!
