Looks like Hollywood is thinking about filming a remake of the Bride of Frankenstein...

This is one I always hoped would be redone...as long as they don't recreate a new and unrecognizable Monster, as I've seen in recent years, well time will tell...

I liked it when Jane Seymour played the part.

John, was that the miniseries from the mid-80's?

The one with Michael Sarazin as The Monster.

Ah. My memory must be going on me, thought it came out in the 80's... that's when I saw it on TV. Hence the mini-series comment.

If it's the one I'm thinking of, she and the monster had a fight and her head got separated from the rest of her..? and there was a ship that got stuck in ice (went to the North Pole IIRC?).

'Gods and Monsters' starring Gandalf, er, Magneto, er, Ian McKellan, was a very good movie about James Whale, the director of 'Bride of Frankenstein'.

I'm not sure I need a remake of the original. I'm a huge fan of Dracula, and the Mummy movies always interest me. But something about Frankenstein leaves me cold. It just seems rather silly.

The hard part about making (or remaking) Bride of Frankenstein is that the entire story is set in in "Frankenstein" and the two movies themselves vaguely cover the essence of Shelly's murkey and dull book. Remaking just the second movie will mean a lot of explaining to do...

On second thought, starting sort of in the middle might not be too bad. A big problem with a lot of movies, for example, Star Trek, The Motion Picture, is that it takes an inordinate amount of time to bring all the characters together, get the story moving along, etc. Same with superhero movies.... Do you start before Batman was Batman? Or is Batman already around but you have to go through the Joker's life until he becomes the Joker so you can have the anticipated battle with Batman?

It was the 70's. Great movie!
I liked the Bride also.
A remake would be good ONLY if it were treated the way the new Wolfman is being done- true to the source!

I liked it when Jane Seymour played the part.

Hear hear (her first onscreen role, btw).

"Frankenstein: The True Story" remains one of my favorite versions of the tale. It's certainly the most well written, and the casting is brilliant.

With most stories, I'd agree, but let's be honest. Frankenstein is one of the single most iconic stories of all time - I doubt there'd be a whole lot of need to explain who Frankenstein was and what he created. Less than five minutes in a prolog would be more than enough time to get everyone up to speed.

Maybe...

Then again, when you say "Frankenstein" to most people, they think of the Boris Karloff monster, not the Doctor!

Well, for example, using the original Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein movies as examples... its nice to know the man and woman murdered by the Monster in the opening scenes of BoF were the parents of the drowned girl from the first movie... If you didn't know what happened in Frankenstein, you wouldn't know of little Maria and what happened to her... etc.
