I have a Brigg and Stratton 12hp engine that I need to remove the fly wheel. I've tried using a pulley removal tools (straight bar with slots for bolts) and the other type that looks like a birds foot. I tried with the with center bolt down the center and the two other bolt in the threaded holes, turning the center bolt to pull up on the fly wheel. I also tried the other way where you put nuts on the two outer bolts and tightened the nuts, nothing. Am I missing something? I also used penetrating oil. Thanks in advance for your help.

You can heat the part of the flywheel around the shaft with a torch, or try using an air impact hammer to loosen the taper.

pry bar behind the flywheel / air chisel with point in center of crank shaft pry the flywheel then press the air chisel the flywheel should come stright off the taper always worked for me

I would think heat or followed by tapping firmly using a blunt head punch around the area of the flywheel where it is seated on the shaft should do worlds of good to help it free up.Strange how such a surface friction can be so hard to release. I do know you can be more agressive when tapping on the shoulder of the flywheel than you think you can as long as your punch is sitting flush.

good luck,
