Hi All:

MHOSA ( slot car club in Denver ) is hosting the Inaugural Les Mont ( The Mountians ) 12
hours slot car race. I'm one of the first teams - Jon Soffa ( Voxxer ), Sheldon Brunn and Chris Byers.

Denver-Mountains

What I would like help on is what hard boby we should use. Since I race in FHRO, we do not run BSRT G3 cars. We have to race with any hard mass produced body.

Could you please post any suggestions.

FHRO is having a Test-n-Tune/IROC open house on the 28th at Chris byers house. The track will be open to any HO car that the racers would like to test.

Chris, Sheldon and I will be testing out " Hard " bodies for the race in September.

We like to get a head start.

Thanks

Voxxer

The new Tomy Ford GT40 is a great race body that snaps right on that chassis. Put a custom paint job on it so you look unique.

The website in post 1 does not mention a maximum width, but the GT40 is generally accepted to be too wide for tech blocks etc.

A Tomy/AFX BMW M1 would be my choice. Super low and light.

The Rokar bodies will not fit natively, but mounts can be fabricated if deemed legal to do so.

The BMW M1 is also a good choice.

Shake things up a little and run an A/FX Turbo Turn-On or Too Much body.

One of the best road racing bodies I've ever used has been this Tomy Porsche.

If you don't mind just a little weight, this one has it in all the right places.
It's so well balanced, and has the weight line around the bottom of the body like a Fray car.
The sides are really stiff to help hold the body in a collision.
It has a good front end to plow through any action and enough weight around the bottom to make it's velocity an
advantage over any other car in it's way. There's also plenty of decals available for Porsche livery.

Eat lots of sour kraut before hand and practice your German, but ditch the polka music.:hat::p:thumbsup::wave:

OH, from Tyco, these are some good road race bodies.

The Ferrari F40

The Mazda RX7

And the Nissan 300zx

The TOMY version of the Nissan is also good, the windshield is molded in, a little more durable.

Others to consider may be the Tomy Camaro, and the AFX Capri.

As in all racing, try what works best for you.
This sounds like it's gonna be a great race!

Thanks NTxSlotCar:

Great info. Here is the problem, I race deep in to the corners, Chris coast and Sheldon is about half way between. That is why we are testing on June 28th and all summer long.

Here are the body rules:

Body and backup body - must be commercially available, "hard" injection molded plastic, resemble the shape, but not necessarily the color scheme of an actual endurance car, weigh at least 3 grams, mount to a G-jet (same as AFX Super G+), have no material added except to assist in body retention scheme. Bodies must have all original pieces including drivers, windshields, lights, bumpers, wings, etc., and can not begin the race broken.

That Nissan looks like my last race car.

Keep the cars coming.

Thanks All

The weigh-in....

Aurora AFX BMW M1 = 3.44 gm
Aurora AFX Capri GT = 3.73 gm
Aurora AFX Datsun 240z = 3.73 gm
Aurora AFX Corvette AP = 3.65 gm
Aurora AFX Corvette TA = 4.04 gm
AW XT Corvette C6R = 4.07 gm
Tomy AFX GT40 = 4.16 gm
Tomy Castrol Jag = 4.54 gm
Tomy AFX Mercedes GTP Circuit Board = 4.66 gm
Aurora AFX Monza GT = 4.75 gm
Tomy Porsche 959 = 4.86 gm
Tomy AFX Ferrari = 4.93 gm
AW XT Ford GT (lighted) = 5.01 gm
Tomy AFX Nissan Skyline (lighted) = 5.10

I hadn't thought about the Capri before, but it is quite light and fits very nicely on the SG+/G3 style chassis and has no wings to break off. The Capri RS2600 competed in the 1974 Le Mans 24 hours race, so it would certainly qualify on authenticity. Looks like the M1 is the winner on weight, but anything around or below 4 grams should be fine. How the weight is distributed matters a lot too, as does crash worthiness, body fitment, etc., so weight alone is not the only factor decision.

Rich sez: Eat lots of sour kraut before hand and practice your German, but ditch the polka music.
Or keep the polka music, and see if Preiser or Merten makes a set of HO oom-pah band figures for the victory stand.
