I havn't run my slot layout for a few months now (trying to finish of the basement). I did receive a couple digital cars in a trade (white and silver gto). I was just lookin at the carera website and it syas all the new digital stuff won't run (going forward) on my track (pro x). So do I buy another set and convert the old cars? Can I convert the old track and cars to new? Anybody else run into this?
I just found this regarding your track:
News about Pro-X from Carrera:
Digital 124/132 not compatible with Evolution PRO-X and PRO-X starting 2009 (11.12.08) Starting 2009, all Digital 124/132 items produced will cease to be downwardly compatible with the Carrera Evolution PRO-X and Carrera PRO-X product lines. Licensing laws have made it impossible for us to maintain compatibility into 2009.
This means Digital 132 and Digital 124 cars (since this year) and Digital 124/132 accessories will no longer be able to be integrated into Evolution PRO-X and Carrera PRO-X systems.
All Digital 132 and 124 car packaging will bear the corresponding information from 2009 onwards. Moreover, starting 2009 packaging for Digital 124/132 will be changed in such a way as to ensure there is no longer a compatibility claim as regards their combination with Evolution PRO-X and PRO-X.
It should be possible to acquire downwardly compatible Digital 132 cars and Digital 124/132 accessories via specialist traders until the middle of 2009. We will shortly be providing you with information on other sources trading these goods until the middle of 2009.

It appears that you have to figure out if you got the Digital 132 cars or the Evolution Pro-X digital cars. If you got the Digital 132 cars, then they will not work on your Pro-X track. And apparently, unless you can get all the remaining stock of Pro-X cars and track you need right now, the supply of them will be gone and replaced with the Digital 132 systems.
I guess its a toss up - keep the system and just run what you have with no potential for future additions to the garage or ditch the whole system and cars and go with the new Digital 132 system?
Kind of a bummer that Carrera had to do this due to licensing issues - really puts the screws to the consumer, eh?

I did get the digital 132 cars. I was thikin if I could switch the chips in the track and the other two cars maybee everything could work. Is the track the same except the area that the controllers plug into? Could the new cars work if that section was replaced? Maybee requiring a controller replacement too?

Honestly, I'm not too sure. I personally do not have Carrera track so I could not tell you. But take a look and see if it is easy enough to swap the chips in the cars and track - surely that is the key to it, right?

The D132 cars that were produced up until last year should work on both a D132 and a PRO-X track. I would check with your slot car dealer to confirm if the car(s) that you would like to purchase will work on your PRO-X track.
To convert to D132, the most economical method would be to get a D132 race set and then swap out the black box and lane changers. The extra track from the D132 race set can be used to expand your existing track. You can also purchase D132 decoder chips to convert older cars to D132.
