Hi Guys!

With all the posts of great flea market and garage sale finds lately, I figured I would throw my story into the ring regarding my most recent find.

Here is a little background first:

A coworker and I were working together on a project and just bsing in passing about a little bit of everything in regards to our interests.

We had found that we had common interests in dogs since we both have Springer Spaniel hunting dogs and liked fishing and such also.

The topic came up of other interests we had and I mentioned that I am big into N scale model railroading and Ho slot cars also.

He said as a kid he was into Ho slotcars back in the '60s and that he had a bunch still pack away somewhere at home.

He said if he could find them he would bring them into work with him and give them to me to look at and give him what I think they were worth.

Well today he shows up with an original Aurora pit kit with 6 cars in it and extra chassis and parts.

He says check them out and think about what you think they are worth to you?

I'm building up to the suspense of what the cars are for all you readers and what I paid for them! LOL!!!!

I'm sure you want to know by now right??????

The six cars were:

Aurora T-jet yellow jag, perfect shape other than needing cleaning up

Aurora T-jet red '63 T-Bird roadster, perfect shape other than cleaning up

Aurora T-jet original batmobile perfect shape but missing batmans head

Aurora T-jet green hornet car slightly bent drivers window post still has green hornet sticker on roof

Afx white/blue stripe #3 trans am camaro perfect shape

Afx orange/black #7 superbird, missing rear wing which I was very bummed out about......

So Wayne what did you pay, inquiring minds want to know????

Don't hate me here now for what I am about to tell you........

You wont believe this but he said how about $40 or whatever you think they are worth?

I almost fell over.......

I'm still pinching myself trying to wake up from this dream......

Like the rest of you guys, my day in the Sun finally came around I guess?

This is my famous 15 minutes of glory.......

Moral of this story: Word of mouth goes a long way to find what it is your after.

Who would of thought a passing conversation about hobbies would bring all this my way?

Now get out there and keep hunting!

The thrill of the hunt is one of the best parts of this hobby!!!!

Time to head down to the dungeon now and go play!!!

Peace out and have a nice weekend!

Wayne :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

That's luck if ever I heard it!!! Better leave your shoes outside when you get home!! You stepped in something good and you don't want to track it in the house... but you don't want to clean it off either.. There may be more out there!! Nice find!!:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

I have a story to tell very similar to this. I was working in a machine shop and the boss hired a very cocky fella a few years younger than me, well the banter started and after pissing each other off we became friends of sorts. So he finds out I'm into slots and says he has some stuff that belonged to his father in law which had been passed down to him and he would bring it in Sat. to see if I wanted to buy it. he brought in what i believed to be a box of lock and jioner track so I gave him $10.00 he was happy as a lark. I took the box over to my work area and when break time came I started going through it. I got to the bottom of the box and I found ARE YOU READY FOR THIS? A t-jet wrecker , volks beetle, Blue mclaren elva and A CANDY RED MUSTANG FASTBACK IN AT LEAST C-9 CONDITION!!!!!. AT the time I had no isea about the candy cars and thought hey cool a Mustang Fastback. So I went back ove to where Joe was working and gave him another $5.00 ( hey that's all I had we got paid every 2 weeks). It was worth going home broke after a day at work like that. And honest this is exactly the way this story played out I am not making anything up. that was about oh 14 years ago and I still shake his hand when I see him and smile.

I ask for trains and slot cars wherever I go.

Its amazing the things I have found over the years that people thought was junk and were going to throw out thinking no one would be interested in it....

I found an n scale train set today at an estate sale.

The guy wanted $25 but it was all pretty beat up.

I may of given $10 but he didnt want to come down in price....

Like I said word of mouth goes a long way....

Great stories guys!

Good luck in your hunts in the future!

Keep turning over rocks, you will find what your looking for eventually!

You wont believe this but he said how about $40 or whatever you think they are worth?

So you gave him $40 instead of what you think they're worth? Wouldn't it have been better to give him a fair price? Somewhere in the middle of $40 and their real value?

Just wondering out loud.

I gave him what he was happy with which was $40 that he wanted for them initially.

He just wanted to see them go to someone that would appreciate them instead of just sitting in an attic deteriorating or just to be thrown out.

I originally told him based off what I found these cars listed at on the net that I wasnt able to pay him what they may be worth or able to get for them if he sold them on ebay.

He said he didnt want to be bothered and said I could have them for $40 or cheaper based off what I wanted to give him for them.

If he is happy with what he asked for them and to see them go to someone who will appreciate them then it is a done deal and everyone is happy.

I dont have any intentions of selling these and they are only worth what someone will pay for them.

With the economy the way it is, it wouldnt be as much as if it were a few years back anyhow.

So he was initially informed that he could get more for them on ebay before I even committed to buy them and he was happy passing them on to me......

They are in a good home now being well taken care of, end of story....

Oh and by the way Mr Stubbs, I'm sure every great flea market or garage sale find that you have found in your lifetime, I'm sure you have given those people the actual value of what it was you found at a great deal also right?

Just wondering out loud.

Wayne..... No Sir! Not at a garage sale or flea market! That's just crazy talk my freind! But........ the two times I have had a similar situation to your's, yes I did give them a fair price. Not "blue book" but a fair price for both of us. More than they asked for and less than I'd pay on epay.

I'm glad they went to a good home and if he's happy I suppose it's cool. I'm just saying that you could have given him more than he asked making him extremely happy with your generosity and you still would have gotten a good deal.

Enjoy them and happy hunting!

In the end everyone is happy!

My coworker is happy that they went to a good home and are appreciated.

I'm happy to have them and provide them a good home.

The cars are happy they are no longer deteriorating in a box up in an attic somewhere.......

Its all good!!! LOL!!!!

Take care now and keep them in the slot!!!!
