Hey folks -

Since we've been talking about remakes, it reminded me that someone had told me that the unsold 2004 pilot made for the WB as a LiS series retooling was finally available on YouTube. Just in case, you've never seen it, here it is, good or bad:

It isn't much like the 1965 series, or even the 2007 film. But the casting wasn't too bad. Maybe it might have become something worthwhile after a few episodes, but then again - maybe not.

Makes the movie version look like The Godfather. Just didn't care much for the concept though it might have been interesting to see where they went with it. Some of the casting was okay but the characterizations were a bit weak. Some of the sets were rather good actually. I remember reading somewhere that some of these sets were used for the Pegasus.

One difference I didn't care for was that in the TV series and even in the movie, Judy was very much a trained scientist whereas here she seemed more just a lovesick teenager. In all, I thought it missed the mark, but nice try. Thanks for the posting, I'd been curious about seeing this ever since I heard about it. Although unfortunately, I have to say that now I know why it was never sold.

?!
In the TV series, Judy "gave up a promising stage career in musical comedy" (or something like that) to join the mission.

I'd been curious, too. Thanks for posting.

Not as awful as some, but didn't really have "it". I thought some of the relationships were pretty good, some changes made sense - making sense of Irwin Allen source material leaves a lot of room for imagination. Ultimately too slow and self-consious.

The bits of BSG music were a surprise.

I didn't remember that but I'll take your word for it. Actually in that case, the movie made more sense in that Judy would have been a vital part to the mission and not just there solely because she was related.

It's in the voiceover that Alpha Control gives when introducing the family

Thanks for posting this. It was interesting to watch. It played like a typical CW show, with lots of youthful angst and whining. Interesting how they left out Dr. Smith and made Penny a baby, and added another boy to the Robinson family.

Just as well this didn't go to series.

Good lord, that was awful. Just awful. I guess there will never be another Guy Williams and June Lockhart.

I got a kick out of seeing spare B9 parts in the garage in the scene where Will was working on the new robot.

Didn't care for all the teen angst either, but guess who buys the products advertised on TV these days?

The new Maureen is much better looking than June Lockhart ever was. Sorry.

Apparently it wasn't only unsold, but was unfinished, in the hallway decompression scene Will's wire rig and the greenscreen were plainly visible in several shots.

The bits of BSG music were a surprise.

Apparently they "borrowed" music from Firefly too during the ship destruction, I'm guessing that was a temp track?

That was a nice touch, but only emphasised how goofy the "new" Robot looked.
