Hey guys, I figure this is the best place to ask for help in identifying a diecast toy car I had waaay back when I was a wee little kid. No pics. Just a bunch of details I remember. Perhaps this'll be a fun test of knowledge for collectors who know their stuff?

About 30 years ago, I remember receiving a diecast toy car as a gift when I visited Japan. It was definitely a diecast car of the DeTomaso Pantera. Diecast body and I think plastic undercarriage. Scale size was probably around 1/24 I think. It probably wasn’t in any scale. It had the two-tone red and black coloring much like the Tomica Limited posted by stretchdog below. It featured treaded rubber tires which I think were of the low profile type. Rear engine hatch opened to reveal a simple silver painted engine detail. Doors also opened and something inside the cockpit popped open the headlights (I don’t remember what - all I remember is that there was some kind of gimmick to pop open the front headlights).

That’s about all I can remember. Anybody have an idea who the maker might have been? It’s not a Kyosho or Tomica Limited since as I wrote above, it was 30 years ago.

Diapet

Are you sure it's not a Bburago?

Is is this one?

Close. but not quite. The rear engine hatch was black and I think the nose had the black skirt underneath. It really looked a lot like the Tomica Limited posted by strechdog.

Oh yeah, I think the rear engine hatch had 2 slots/holes near the back for where a wing/spoiler could be attached. On my toy, the spoiler was missing (either never attached, left in the box, or quickly lost)

Are you sure it's not a Bburago?

Dunno. Would a Bburago be available in 1979 Japan?

This one is scale 1/38, made by Shinsei and a pull-back

It could be a Diapet or Shinsei. But with slightly different paint job. Definitely remember silver hubs.

I found a page that has a top view of what mine looked like: http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Downs/9415/toys.html At the very bottom left : http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Downs/9415/norev1.jpg The one above the one marked '30'.

Maybe it was a Norev? This one looks exactly like the one I had: http://cgi.ebay.fr/JET-CAR-DE-NOREV-PANTERA-GT4-DE-TOMASO-1-4-EN-BOITE_W0QQitemZ300313098306QQcmdZViewItemQQptZFR_Y O_Jeux_VehiculesMiniaturesCircuits_VehiculesMiniat ures?hash=item300313098306&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1526|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A13 18|301%3A0|293%3A1|294%3A50

Except I don't recall the forward hatch opening. Any chance Norevs were exported to Japan or rebranded?
