What really gets you going about this hobby in particular?

Is it :

photographing them?
the hunt?
anxiety waiting for the next releases?
the excitement of the buy?
urge to complete a theme?
having all the right winners and drivers?
the longing for the UPS truck to deliver the goods?
sharing tips, stories, information with others in the hobby?
future anticipated sales profit?
consternation over what vehicles should be produced by whom?
just visually looking at them regularly?
modifying them to achieve ultimate accuracy?
having the most or the largest amount invested?
researching their start-up, pre-production mock-ups, etc.
bragging rights?
pure nostalgia?
momentos of personal events, situations,encounters?
displaying them?
all of the above?
some of the above?
none of the above?

having a diecast company showing whats comming and then to find out it's not going to be released.
to delete or half delete the best selling releases. and being replaced by junk.

Right now it is the excitement of adding something I have not been able to obtain before. I have made a couple of recent purchases that have eluded me in the past for various reasons. One of which I had been wanting to add but had not seen one ANYWHERE in over 3 years. Once it came up there was no way anyone was going to get it but me...lol.

But to your point it is for me at least the collecting the castings that I desire the most and watch my collection come together.

The hunt and the surprises. I only collect what I like, no TH or WL unless I stumble upon them for dirt cheap...to resell to buy more of what I want. :)

I like the hunt, but don't get to do too much. I love the UPS "rap and run". When I can display them, I have fun doing that. This might fall "under urge to complete a theme", but I love collecting variations of castings and models. The love of photographing will begin once I replace this crappy camera of mine.

What keeps me going?

The hunt is always fun to me, and not just for Chase cars. Ripping open the packages is a blast, in an evil way, since there are so many cardboard collectors.

I really enjoy photographing and examining the the cars to, some of the details and paints are outstanding. There are times I sit in my home office and just stare at all my cars on the shelfs.

The one thing I DO NOT think about is resale. Once you go down that road it detracts from the hobby.

well... I like all things (or almost all things) transportation, and cars are the easiest to collect (and see in real life) so thats what I really deal with, books, magazines, 1:18s, hotwheels, some matchboxes, few JLs, and some green lights...

On the negative side, I hate some of the collectors who bring the fun of this hobby down. When I see other people enjoy collecting, I enjoy it that much more. I support my fellow collectors when they have a good day or a good gripe.

A few years ago I had the idea of collecting a range of Deluxe Cases from Lesney. There were two versions made in New York for the US. So these cases that held 72 cars in six trays were never exported overseas.
For the past five years I collected a total of 10 of these Deluxe Cases. And although my collection is benefiting I still have to sort it all out properly to get the unique view I want from them.
At the moment its the best storage design ever and I want at least two dozen more.

I'll second that and follow it up with no repairs ever needed (major anyway:)) and no fuel costs! $4.30-a-gallon gas helped solidify the decision to sell my 1:1 last year. I do miss the fun of driving, but the next one will be a convertible. Nothing beats top-down cruizin'

I have fun setting up at toy collection shows and explaining what to look for in a new release etc.... and the hunt for what I call treasures at yard sales. Now I like talking on this hobby talk site. I did not know about all the chase cars. Just collected mostly HWs, matchbox and JLs. chase cars. There is not much for hobby shows in my area or collector clubs. If any one would like to clue me in to chase cars for other die cast makes I would be grateful.

I have been looking on Ebay and the internet (goggle) I have seen a lot. Sure wish the toy cars and models magazine was still around as it did keep me somewhat informed about the hobby.

Amen to the "Toy Cars & Models" magazine! I miss it too.

I beginning to feel that I wouldn't have a life outside of work if it wasn't for looking for little cars. I've also been a collector of something all my life which is a family trait from my mother, and her father.:dude:

Also with anything good, there is a bad side also which I steer clear of.
