“Only Mustangs Make it Happen”- especially in California. In mid-February 1968, California Ford Dealers began to market a factory-built, limited-edition Mustang, called the GT/CS, or "California Special". This was in an effort to respond to the new model car competition in’68 versions of the Camaro, Javelin, Firebird, and Cougar. The California Special was originally set for a production run of 5,000, however only 4,118 were actually produced. From that run, 251 units were remarketed in Denver, Colorado known as “High Country Special ‘68”. Production of these Mustangs ran for 5 ½ months, ending in August 1968. Unique details of these models include side fender scoops, rear taillights, rear decklid, front fog lights, and hood locks.

In tribute, GreenLight is producing the GT/CS in Candy Apple Red with a White Stripe and the High Country Special in Gold Metallic with Black Stripes and a Black Vinyl Roof. All replicas feature 100% die-cast metal body with authentic factory paint, opening doors, opening hood and trunk, carpeted interior with fabric seatbelts, window box packaging and a sequentially numbered chassis. These replicas will be available in August 2009 in 1:18 scale. Quantities are limited to 1,500 units for both the GT/CS and the High Country Special.

GreenLight® Collectibles is a premier manufacturer and marketer of officially licensed, authentic die-cast replica vehicles. In 2009, the company has expanded to thirteen distinct product lines. GreenLight die-cast replicas are available in 1:18, 1:24 and 1:64 scale and are officially licensed by General Motors, Ford Motor Company, Chrysler, Carroll Shelby Licensing, Barrett-Jackson Auction Company, 20th Century Fox (SPEED Channel), Tim Phelps, Grand-Am Road Racing Association, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and Bridgestone Americas.

Nice additions to the GT/CS and HCS lineup! Any chance of seeing more specials in 1:64 scale? I'd really like to see the 1:64 GT/CS Convertible done in Vista Blue with Black stripe.
