View Full Version : Classic RC Raceways Indoor Dirt Offroad
General 06-08-2009, 08:58 AM Well guys some knew it was coming and others was praying it would.
Although I love the carpet racing for both road and oval, were just not getting the turnout we need to keep it going. Between the economy and the prices for getting new racers on the track with a pan car it just seems a little to expensive to try to get the new racers to join. So here we go.
Starting the beginning of Oct I will be bringing the new clay into the building.
Track size will be 100' by 45'. the driverstand will be elevated ond mounted on the wall with a ramp for everyone to enjoy.
There will be pits for up to 100 racers and we will be totally heated so dont worry about bringing the coats and sweaters.
Give me some feed back and let me know what you think.
Steve
clarkwhoracing 06-08-2009, 09:08 AM Sounds like a good plan - guess I should have came out this weekend to check things out and get some carpet time.
Will carpet still run until then or is it done?

General 06-08-2009, 01:32 PM cant wait! hey steve you getting any 2wd mod buggy action outside?
Yes, were starting to get a little action. Wait till you come. Since the last time you were here this place is really starting to look good. We've been doing alot of work on the track each week to make it very friendly to the driver. The flow is awsume but just enough to keep you on your toes, one mistake and your done.
Steve
badassrevo 06-08-2009, 02:21 PM SWEET!!!! a new winter track in the area.
Kyosho Racer 06-08-2009, 03:30 PM cant wait! hey steve you getting any 2wd mod buggy action outside?
I bring my Kyosho RB5 every Sat hoping others will show. This Sat I won't be at the track:cry: I have plans, sorry.
Jeff
ATOWN RACEWAY13 06-08-2009, 04:35 PM ill be there for dirt
ccm399 06-08-2009, 05:18 PM Great news!!!!
Bob Imbrigotta 06-08-2009, 09:17 PM Cool we won't have to worry about my T4 on foams tearing up the carpet!
ccm399 06-08-2009, 09:39 PM So since it is indoors in a nice building I am guessing electric vehicles only? Maybe I should say I HOPE it is electric only. Either that or nitro and electric separated like Ashtabula.
Are you going to continue the Friday night racing indoors?!?!?!? That would be SWEET!
Chris
ccm399 06-08-2009, 09:44 PM Oh, while I'm on the subject I would LOVE a surface that we could run Holeshots or IFMAR pins on indoors. It seems like all the tracks have gone to (or always been) tacky clay that you can run slicks on. Sure its fun to have that much bite but I like the finesse it take to run 2wd mod outdoors!
The only downside would be for the racers that travel is they would have to re-setup their cars to race at Classic. But the guys who travel should have little issue with this as they will probably be adjusting their cars each day anyway!
Chris
Bob Imbrigotta 06-08-2009, 10:11 PM Hopefully it will be racing on Saturdays?
frank p. 06-09-2009, 01:23 AM Rob M. you up for a trip in two weeks? Steve cant wait to get there!
Bob Imbrigotta 06-09-2009, 04:49 AM Do you envision the track being large enough to run 1/8 electric buggy?
Hangtime 06-09-2009, 08:24 AM Exactly what this area needs!

+1, I like dirt. off road cars use off road tires.

Yes, this will be an electric only track only. There is going to be a new wall built inbetween the track area and the pit area. This will keep the dirt somewhat in the track area, easier to heat the pits at about 70 degrees, and will also be able to keep the track area a little cooler so as to keep the bills down.
As far as the dirt goes, I was thinking of bringing in clay( the same as the offroad track). I was thinking it would hold together better and less dust to deal with, but i guess a little research is going to be needed on this.
Fri and Sat night will be the race days. We are getting almost as many drivers on Fridays now as we are on Sats. Lot a fun, and some good compitition.
Thanks for the replies,
Steve
Eric C 06-09-2009, 12:58 PM Can't wait for your opening day. 2 wheel mod on Friday nights should be a blast. Clay/topsoil mix is what most indoor tracks use. Keeping the dirt moist allows for consistant conditions and holds together (less maintanance and dust), espcially if electric 8th scales will be running.
Good luck Steve!
Heatseeker 06-09-2009, 01:23 PM Eric, what 2wd mod, motor are you running?

clarkwhoracing 06-09-2009, 01:41 PM Might be nice to run some Friday nights for indoor dirt - free the weekend up for the twins I have coming soon!
ICEMAN96 06-09-2009, 03:37 PM :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:SWEEEEET.1/10 AND 1/16 SLASH YEAR ROUND.
I like this move by Steve to help bring new people to the hobby, with all the 1/10-1/18th RTR for offroad it will be alot easier and bring back the fun factor.

I am still runnin' the RB5. I have the Novak GTB and 8.5 and 10.5 motors. If I were starting from square one I would take a good hard look at the Tekin stuff. Castle too.
On another subject...
I thought we might get a good amount of votes for "real" dirt. I am NOT saying I would like the track to be loamy just not a track you run slicks on either. You can have a surface that will hold up to racing AND allow you to run a larger pin tire. Again not IFMAR Stud or Bowties but not Tapers or Slicks either.
Anyway, keep the info comin' Steve....
Glad to see Friday nights are part of the plan!!!! That way I can race and still have the entire weekend to do other things!!!!

Does the Gate in Cleveland still exist??
Columbus is a haul along with Ashtabula so Akron is a little closer to me at least.
I am looking forward to running some indoor dirt - been a year + for me.
I know I can get at least 2 more guys and maybe more to come out to run also.
agholub 06-11-2009, 12:27 PM Does the Gate in Cleveland still exist??
The Gate will be reopening at a new location this September. It has been closed since it was flooded late last November.
Heatseeker 06-11-2009, 05:25 PM Ok guys, would this be a good set up for the Kyosho RB5 SP, Castle Creations Mamba Max 1/10th Scale Brushless Car Package (5700kV) (http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_info.php/cPath/1_221_911/products_id/20064/n/Castle-Creations-Mamba-Max-1-10th-Scale-Brushless-Car-Package-5700kV) ? What size battery would you recommend?
Thanks,

ccm399 06-11-2009, 05:36 PM WAYYYYY TOO MUCH MOTOR!!!!!!
Scott had a 4600 (?) in his B4 at Boardman last time and it made my 8.5 look like a stocker!!!!
Careful on the battery as the RB5 battery slot does not seem as deep as the B4's.

The next one down is the 4600kV motor and is roughly equivalent in top speed to a very good 12t brushed motor on 6 cells.
So this would be the better choice then?
ICEMAN96 06-11-2009, 06:35 PM The 1/16 Slashes Are Out.............................................st eve Should Have Themsoon If He Doesn't Already I Know He Preorderd I Think 12.:thumbsup::hat::hat:

Yes! 12 turns can be a lot of motor for 2wd mod. If they end up putting in a super high bite CRCRC type surface you MIGHT be able to use the faster motor but more thatn likely you'll be faster with the 4600 either way.
Jason and I run either a 10.5 or an 8.5 in our cars.
badassrevo 06-11-2009, 06:50 PM The 4600 is a very smooth motor, I ran one in my X6 and now in my T4 and do very well with it.
Heatseeker 06-11-2009, 07:32 PM Sounds good, thanks again guys.

General 07-25-2009, 05:20 PM Hey guys, I would like to get some sort of idea how many racers plan on racing here this winter.
Schedule:
Thurs-doors open at 4pm and racing will start at 6:30
Sat-doors open at 11am and racing starts at 1pm
This will be an on going attendance list but I would like to get as many names on here as possible. If possible I would like to start asap on the building of the neww indoor track. Days like these we could sure use it.
