Guys had someone give us this car for an experiment that we are going to do where we put a 50cc motorcycle engine in this that produces 17.5 hp with 9ft of tq. Before we start modifiying it I figure I better ask what the heck it is before it is cut to pieces.

Please don't cut up a piece of 1/4 Scale history, there are plenty of newer chassis that are much better for experments. AGAIN PLEASE DON'T DESTROY THIS CAR!!!...

i have to say, the welds on this chassis are by far the bast we have seen compared to the new ones. It seems to be all tig welded. where the other cars that have been drop off to our fabrication shop seems to be mig welded. This car seems lighter then the newer ones that people dropped by to show us.

It does look like a WCM....maybe a 1988 version?...maybe Rick Binnecker can put an age to it.

Its for sure a WCM. There are still quite a few of those ones around. Something like that pictured generally sells in the $200-$300 range unless you have the engine and the rest of the car. If its a complete WCM belt car they sell in the $600 range.

I would not hesitate to cut it up. Heck, I have one I am chopping up for a 55 project. These cars are not that desirable right now. If it does not have a QC in it, it seems nobody wants it now and days. I cant think of a better full cage car to cut up. New era cars were pretty poor quality, but i would say they are worth more then the wcm just because they are harder to find.

the wcm cars had a serial # just behind the front end on lower chasis u can see it there in the front end pic, see what # is on that tag

To make it a modern chassis, you more than likely would need to add a couple mounting points, no need to cut. :)

A chassis like that could be refurb'd, add a nice painted body and put in a location such as the Hall of Fame at Dega. They accept just about anything that is tied to stockcar racing and it's history.

Shawn, keeping it original as possible, it would make a great pacecar for your track!!

why would you want to put a 50cc engine in a car that size? Hope your not planning on running it on a oval. It may make a good drag car. Our cars today don't have but 2.2 HP and around 1.5 ft. pounds of torque. That tube front and rearend want last long on a oval:o.LOL I'm sure someone has a old engine that they will sale cheap or even give you to try. I have gave all my older stuff away except the ones I'm going to restore. If I come across a car I will trade you for that one. I would like to have that car to restore.
