View Full Version : Lincoln johnny lightning race club interested in setting up a slot car track
johnnyl 06-04-2009, 11:25 PM The club is interested in setting up a slot car track and racing Thunderjet cars maybe a couple times a year. I dont know alot about the different slot car manufacturers is the AFX cars faster than the THUNDERJETS i would like to race the TJETS being that the Playing Mantis name is on them. Let me know about your ideas setting this up at our club. Thanks Jeremy:thumbsup:
brownie374 06-05-2009, 11:39 AM where are you located we race jl at my track
For layout ideas, check this link:
http://www.hoslotcarracing.com
And click the 'Layouts' button on the menu to the left. They also have a table building section.
And yes, the Afx MT and JL/AW XT cars are faster. They are essentially hopped-up, lowered versions of the Thunderjets.
roadrner 06-05-2009, 06:27 PM Well, you're probably want to go with a four lane layout as a minimum. I'd start with one of the TOMY International sets and pick up a couple extra power packs so you can have separate power for each lane. You'll have to modify the power tracks to isolate each lane but that's no big deal. This would be a good starting point and relatively inexpensive considering. If it works out, you can start thinking about upgrading controllers, better power supply, timing system and more track. Have fun!:thumbsup: rr
johnnyl 06-05-2009, 09:30 PM Brownie 374 our club is located in Lincoln R.I. we meet the second sat. of each month. In fact our next meet is next sat. June 13th 9:00 am. We race the Johnny's on a 25 ft. downhill track we have been together since jan. of 2007. We just recently moved in to the MacColl field YMCA 26 Breackneck hill rd. Lincoln R.I. 02865. I am looking into setting up a Slot car track maybe in a couple of months racing the Thunderjets we just purchased a Johnny SIZZLER track and 24 sizzler cars Playing mantis. We like to keep the club interesting. Dont be a stranger thanks Jeremy.
SuperFist 06-06-2009, 01:31 AM This might be off topic, but you should look into maybe adding BSRT G-Jet for your club racing.
http://scaleauto.com/bsrt/gjet_car.htm
It's a spec car that is easy to drive.
They're smooth and not insane fast, anyone can race them.
The $55 each for the rollers might sound like a lot but they are truly a competition slot car.
And if you want they come with a Tomy AFX Super G+ body clip to use X-Traction, Tomy or Johnny Lightning Thunderjet 500 hard bodies.
They are race ready out of the box and all of them are consistently good with no tuning required, so you don't need a lot of them.
They need a 12 volt power supply and 25 ohm Parma controller.
The BSRT G-Jet is a bargain for real slot car racing competitions.
* In our racing league we race outlaw modified T-Jets & Thunderjets only.
The guys I race with would lynch me if they knew I was promoting G-Jets.

I know more about the downhill Gravity racing thats the big thing with our club but I would like to set up a Sizzler track, Rocket 500 track, and a slot car track( TJETS ) each month if we can. This is great if I have any questions about slot cars or tracks I know were to go Thanks Jeremy.

They are pretty cool running too, Jeremy. Set up an IROC truck series! They could run with or without trailers.
I'm just saying...
The Afx rigs are/were highly underrated. When someone saw me put a rig on the track, they were awstruck and loved them. They'd call their kids (if they had any) over to see the truck run around the track. I've told many about them and that they should pick one up.
Same goes for the AW trucks. A must get.
Also grab yourself a 4-gear..........
slotcarman12078 06-15-2009, 12:35 PM I like the way the Semi Tractors run.. The trailers are a bit loose. I kind of wish they stuck like the tractors do. They ran great right out of the box which really suprized me..
