Just before the Flying Sub was scheduled to be released, I got laid off and was forced to cancel all of the pre-orders that I had placed with CultTVMan. Needless to say I was bummed, the flying sub is my all time favorite craft from VTBOTS.

Well, in Indianapolis the northside branch of HobbytownUSA was moving from one location to another close by and was offering to let customers help with the move in exchange for store credit. Well, having no job I thought why not. Believe me it was hard work. Emptying the shelves, dis-assembling the shelving racks, loading it all into trucks, unloading it, reassembling the racks and re-stocking the shelves. I worked 4 days, a total of 35 hours and got my credit.

I special ordered a Flying Sub cause he didn't have one on the shelf, now he does, I guess he ordered 2, one for me and one for stock. It came in today and I finally got my flying sub. Of course I have no idea when I'll build it but the same can be said for the Seaview and LOTS of other kits.....

Now if I can just find a job I can afford some of the lighting/decal kits for the FS.

I understand. I paid for my big FS just before I got laid off.

I tiptoed getting the after-market stuff I wanted/needed.
My rule of thumb was: store brand cheapo spray paints on the inside, spendy Tamiya paint on the outside.

Get her out and start buildin!

I was laid off in november,Thankfully, things have gotten better. I hope they have or that they soon will for both of you.I found "unconventional employment" such as delivering the Newspaper, Etc.Nothing Illegal, mind you.

Steve, sorry to hear about the job loss. I used Rustolium Painters Touch Marigold and Crystal Clear Gloss for the outside (it looks speactacular!) and some excellent Krylon paints on the inside and am very very happy with the results and the price. Masking was easy so you dont need special masks and you can even do the detail paint work yourself with a toothpick. The model is big enough the detail isnt all that small. I picked up 100 LEDs on ebay for a few bucks--add a battery and a switch and your good!

Good luck with your job search.

I know where you are coming from and simpathise,my wife has two jobs as I had to give up work due to osteoarthritise in the knees, had to fight with the national health service(2 years)to get the ops to replace partial knee joints, sold off a lot of my collection to keep the hobby going as building commissions were sparse and TV work wasn't happening(prop and model making)but things have a habbit of coming round and I have recently started to pick up some modeling work(i work from home now) and can contribute to the house as well as keep my side of the hobby(Sci-Fi etc)alive, with a big debt of gratitude to my wife(my best critic),
so keep your chins up,Gordon
