David Carradine, star of the 1970s TV series “Kung Fu” whose career roared back to life when he played the assassin-turned-victim in Quentin Tarentino’s “Kill Bill,” was found dead Thursday in Thailand. A published report said he committed suicide.

A spokesman for the U.S. Embassy, Michael Turner, confirmed the death of the 72-year-old actor. He said the embassy was informed by Thai authorities that Carradine died either late Wednesday or early Thursday, but he could not provide further details out of consideration for his family.

The Web site of the Thai newspaper The Nation cited unidentified police sources as saying Carradine was found Thursday hanged in his luxury hotel room.

WTF? Who hangs themselves? There is a story here, but I doubt we'll ever know it.

Speaking of celebrity suicides, check out the movie 'Hollywoodland' about the mystery surrounding George Reeves (tv superman) death. It's an outstanding movie with a great cast.

"Kung Fu" and "Kill Bill" actor David Carradine was found dead Thursday in a Bangkok hotel room, his manager told FOX News.
According to police, the 72-year-old actor appeared to have hanged himself.
The officer responsible for investigating the death, Teerapop Luanseng, said Carradine was staying at a suite at the luxury Swissotel Nai Lert Park Hotel.
"I can confirm that we found his body, naked, hanging in the closet," Teerapop said. He said police suspected suicide.
Chuck Binder, Carradine's manager, said the actor was staying in the Thai capital while shooting a movie called "Stretch." When a producer went to his luxury hotel room, he learned that the actor was dead, Binder said, adding that the cause of death is still "under investigation."
According to Thai Newspaper, The Nation (http://www.nationmultimedia.com/2009/06/04/headlines/headlines_30104421.php), Carradine had been staying at the hotel since Tuesday but could not be contacted after he failed to appear for a meal with the rest of the film crew on Wednesday.

It said a preliminary police investigation found that he had hanged himself with a cord used with the room's curtains. It cited police as saying he had been dead at least 12 hours and there was no sign that he had been assaulted.
Police said Carradine's body was taken to a hospital for an autopsy which would be carried out Friday.

A statement on behalf of his family has yet to be released, but Binder called the death "shocking and sad ... He was full of life, always wanting to work ... a great person."
But despite an enthusiasm for his work, the actor had openly discussed his battle with suicidal (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/celebritynews/5445266/David-Carradine-spoke-of-suicide-wish-before-his-death-in-Bangkok-hotel.html) thoughts. In a 2004 interview, Carradine said: "I remember one time sitting at the window of the third or fourth floor of the Plaza Hotel for about an hour, thinking about just tipping off."
He also said he had considered shooting himself.
"Look, there was a period in my life when I had a single action Colt 45, loaded, in my desk drawer. And every night I'd take it out and think about blowing my head off, and then decide not to and go on with my life. Put it back in the drawer and open the laptop and continue writing my autobiography or whatever. But it was just to see."
The actor is survived by his wife Annie Bierman and three children.
Carradine was a leading member of a venerable Hollywood acting family that included his father, character actor John Carradine, and brother Keith.
In all, he appeared in more than 100 feature films with such directors as Martin Scorsese, Ingmar Bergman and Hal Ashby.

Sad. He was really good in the Kill Bill films, his performance in them was a big surprise to me. He had came a long way from his Deathrace 2000 "B" movie days.

Some reports are now saying it wasnt suicide but, auto erotic asphyxiation. He hung himself with the rope tied to his neck and genitals.

Carradine was one of those guys who just defied scrutiny as an actor. If he had a "method", it was indiscernible. But he always convinced me in any role he played.

One of my favoite Carradine performances is as a ridiculously drunk bar patron in Martin Scorsese's "Mean Streets". It's just one short sequence but he is absolutely hilarious in his utter inebriation. The sequence concludes with Carradine being gunned down by an anonymous hit man. The hit man was played by Carradine's younger brother, Robert.

Ok...this is just too odd:
"Forensic expert Porntip Rojanasunan, who works with Thailand's justice ministry, told AFP the death appeared to be caused by an "auto-erotic accident.""

Getting information about such a thing from a guy named PORNtip.

I think he might have appreciated the name play.

It was Michael Hutchence from INXS.

I know, because i was working at the city morgue at the time he was admitted.

Anyways, let the sleeping lie in peace.

RIP Sensei Carradine.

Well for one thing he had already said before that he thought about taking his life. Many times. And another, look where he was found dead: the center of child sex slave trade and other scum. All you have to do is connect the dots. So, no, it's not a surprise.

So... Since he was on location shooting his next film, you're branding the guy a pedophile who died because you say he was engaged in pedophilia?

So, for example, if he was shooting a film in the south, he'd be an ignorant bible thumping racist.

Way to make the slightest bit of sense, dude.

Yeah, never mind that he was on location shooting a movie in the "center of child sex slave trade" and apparently died alone in a closet harming no one but himself.

Don't let the facts get in the way of your righteous indignation and "connecting the dots".

Well sorry that I stepped on a few toes. I'm sure he was in-between shots on the set. Went back to his room, tripped and fell into a noose that was in his closet. While trying to free himself, by stripping off all his clothes, mr winky got tangled up to.

I'm no bible thumper nor do I have any righteous indignation. Nor do I go through life with blinders on. It's easy for anyone to see what he was doing, where he was doing it and how it caught up with him. A very sad and stupid way to die.

A bit different than your earlier post ....

... which seemed to infer that Carradine was somehow involved in the child sex trade. I think we all understand the specifics of how he died. Yeah, it's a freaky way to go. Doesn't make him a child molester though.

^^ Thank you Scott. The child sex trade may sound harsh, but that was my point. He wasn't found in a church, reading his bible and passed away from a mild heart attack. He was found dead in a place that is well know for some of the worst acts of perversion on the face of this planet. And the way he was found....

well, that raises an interesting question, doesn't it?

Does going to Vegas make you a gambler, or do you seek out Vegas because you want to gamble?

Apply that to the Bangkok analogy

According to the news reporting, his ex said he had a lifetime fascination with bondage, it sounds to me like this could have just as easily have happened in Los Angeles, Paris, or New York. The fact it happened in Bangkok, where again, he was on location shooting a movie, seems to be just coincidental. It doesn't make how he died any less tragic, it doesn't neccessarily mean he was participating in the sex trade, and it sure doesn't mean he was a child molestor.

It also doesn't make his death any less stupid, or weird. But the mental leaps some folks are making based on how and where he died seem unfortunate, and mean spirited imho. He wasn't on some pervy vacation tour, he was shooting a movie.
