Found these at a flea market but cannot identify the maker of some. Would you know who made them? Who is Sona? Is the SUV truck a Chevrolet?

didn't we see an earlier post of a similar GT40???

The Ford GT40 pictured above is actually about a quarter of an inch bigger than the "world's ugliest diecast!"

I seem to remember seeing the black one in the back row on a "Speed Wheels" card. Made by Maisto. Still in stores, I believe. It's hard to tell by the pic, so I may be wrong.

All the nomenclature listed in the post came from the underside of each model.

I don't know the makers of the first car, the GT40, or the white car in the second row.

The blue Porsche is by Sona. Have you ever heard of this company?

On the last row, I would like to identify the cream-colored SUV. Is it a Chevy, GMC, Ford? And what make is the green sedan, a Toyota?

The NASCAR looks like Racing Champions to me. I dont know the rest.

All these models were rather dirty and worn. If the Sona car used batteries, they no doubt are dead. I will have to check on this car more extensively. Thanks for your info about it!

Not a problem! If I get some time in the next few weeks I will dig up that Porsche in my die cast graveyard......and I'll Let you know if it does work :wave:

The white one in the second row, judging by the wheels looks like a Tomy. It is also possible that it is by Kenner. It appears to be really played with.
I would say from the looks, that it is a Ferrari 308 from the Mid 80s.
It may be a Fiero but it is difficult to tell by the picture.

That's an exellent question, :thumbsup: I forgot about the Merak.
Could be either one - from looking at pix, I think they share the same body.

It is the Merak... has those louvers running down the rear engine compartment like the real one... however the casting didn't have the openings in the things behind the window.

I'm not exactly sure what you're sayin', but from what I can tell, the V6 Citroen SM
powered Merak like you have above has the open area behind the side windows (rear roof pillars or just a styling feature???) and on the Masi V8 powered Bora (below) has this area COMPLETELEY glassed in, making for a smooth fastback roofline.
You can also see a much bigger area of the rear clip opens up on the Bora to acsess the larger V8 mill.

I've seen both in person, haven't seen a merak in a long while, but i have seen 2 Boras this year! (even a yellow one!)

Lummox, you have it the wrong way around with the V6 engine. It was a Maserati engine in the Citroen, so it was a Maserati powered Citroen SM and not a Citroen SM powered Merak.

I guess I stated it incorrectly.
The V6 in the Merak was a Masi mill, and that's the same one they used in the SM.

except the SM is Front Engined FWD and the Merak is Rear Engined RWD ;)

Well technically those Masi's are mid engined.
The engine is placed slightly ahead of the rear axle.
A good example of a rear engined car is an old VW bug...the engine hangs over the rear axle. :thumbsup:

also, with classic cars like the Chevy Cheetah and Cobra Daytona Coupe.... theres also a Front Mid Engined Layout too (engine behind front axle... especially for the Cheetah)

I think that for this same reason that technically the SM is a "front mid-engined" since it's version of this V-6 is located completely behind the front axle
