This forum is to help everyone identify the various christmas LED lights and get an idea of what voltage each is. Since LEDs tend to be very cheap after Christmas this should help most model builders indentify the various ones they have bought and make it easier to know what voltage to use.

Please identify color, size, and what voltage they are. If voltage is unknown, try to list what voltage they will work with and not burn up. Also try to list the manufacturer and store where purchased (if you still have that information)

If possible please include pictures to go with the identifications.

Still working on catagorzing my leds, I will post them in a couple of days.

Target stores tend to have a nice selection of Xmas LEDs. Also, online rave party suppliers tend to have really neat solid-state lighting stuff, which can possibly be adapted for models or model displays.

No, these were ones I picked up after Christmas. This forum will expand each year after christmas when people pick them up and post the information here.

The ones I listed were available until February on clearance racks.

For those who don't know the V cut in the top of a leds reflects the light from the chip out the sides of the led with little light going out the top!

The v can be sanded down to a flat top if you need the light from the top.

A few questions? Are you using the bulbs by themselves? Why?
The sets I've used work great, are pre-wired with a battery box,..and good for me,... foolproof.

Secondly, don't be too concerned with the light output of a v-shaped (concave) bulb head. Here are mine, they are pretty darned bright.

I used my christmas bulbs to make my life easier, might as well use normal bulbs otherwise.

There are several sources for christmas lights year 'round. just google.

Okay, I got these little box sets of 20 LEDs from Walgreens that are powered by 4 AA batteries. Is there any way to combine multiple strings of these lights together for large kits? I also want to use one of the sets in their "blinking" mode for the formation markers on the ship.

I am wanting to use these and/or the sets from Target to light my 1:350 refit Enterprise.

There was some really great info on the Moebius forum, before this one started. That stuff should be found, and imported over here.

I removed mine from the strings, sorted them in to small clear plastic containers and tossed the strings out. This way I can combine and use only what I need, plus the wires all indicated that they contain lead. I will wire mine up using wire I purchased from Radio Shack and recycled 22 gauge wire.

None of my LEDs/string sets were the blinking sets.

Thanks, I looks like a good reference to either purchase or identify the LEDs that we have gathered.
RL5-B12120 Blue LED - Looks like the Blue ones I have. Based on the price, I think I paid about $.30 cents each when I bought them after Christmas.

RL5-G16120 Green LED - that would be my green with the v cut
RL5-R12120 Red LED - similar, although mine look more pink when NOT lighted
RL5-Y12120 Yellow LED - I have the yellow, I forgot to show them above

Never overlook drug store chains. I find at Rite-Aid 20 light battery operated sets in clear and colored. The switch can be set for on, or flashing, if need. I find them there every Christmas. I buy enough sets to use some to remove what I need, others to keep as a set.

Yes, and Lemax has been offering neat battery sets, too. The battery boxes even have thumbwheel controllers to set the flashing rate.

The LEDs I pictured above are from Rite Aid and are currently 50% off making them about $5 per strand of 70 LEDs.
These are Indoor/Outdoor Icicle stings (white wire). The one string has 35 white and 35 light blue LEDs. The other string has assorted colors - dark blue, red, yellow, and green
