View Full Version : Build Question on The Invisible Man
DoctorG 05-31-2009, 02:37 PM Hi All!
I've seen some great BU's of The Invisible Man on this board and am in the process of working on my kit now that Wonderfest '09 is past us.
I'm curious as to what sequence folks used to do the figure build. More specifically, did people build the overcoat section first (seaming, puttying. painting) and THEN try to get the painted pants/shirt section inside. or did you build the overcoat around the painted shirt/pants sections? If you look at Bernd Slominski's great article in the most recent issue of AFM, it looks like he did the overcoat as a separate sub-assembly before adding the shirts/pants, but this looks like a really tight fit. I've got a PM in to Bernd, but I thought this may make for a good build-thread here on Hobbytalk.
Tks!
G.
gregsb 05-31-2009, 03:01 PM There is a good article in SciFi and Fantasy Modeler about the build. It seems very helpful. In the article it shows the holes in the front of the pants being made into slots so the pants could be slid up and under the coat after the coat assembly and the pant assembly were painted.

Thanks! I'll definitely track down that issue, but the idea of making the holes on the pants into slots would certainly make it easier to maneuver the painted sub-assemblies
gregsb 05-31-2009, 11:09 PM I should have specified...its the latest issue with the Moebius Flying Sub on the cover.
I think I ended up building the overcoat over the pants assembley, then taking care of the seems and touching up the paint on the coat.. I think...Its been awhile LOL. And I'm getting a tad senile.
rkoenn 06-01-2009, 12:10 PM I am working on mine but not too far along. I am building them separately and have the two done individually now. I performed a test fit of getting the vest/shirt inside the coat and it was very difficult but doable. I think I had to do a little temporary bending and twisting of the coat. I haven't paid much attention to it but don't foresee too much trouble with the pants. I think at the worst I could epoxy it into place blindly but will have to take a closer look at that. Hope you post some pics when you are done, I am most impressed with many of the builds I have seen. They had a really nice one built up at the Kitbuilders booth at Wondercon but Dan always does great work.
BKSinAZ 06-05-2009, 12:12 AM How will you all paint your invisible man, airbrush or standard brush? What type of paint and which glue and putty?
DoctorG 06-05-2009, 06:15 PM I'll use mainly the AB for the clothing and brushwork for everything else. Assembly will be with Tenax and then Aves and modeling paste for the seam work.
ChrisW 06-05-2009, 09:42 PM I'm looking forward to seeing your build DrG!

Hi Chris :) I have some neat customizing ideas for this kit, so we'll see how it all unfolds. As you know, my completed kit output is about as fast as those Slowski turtles, so it may be quite awhile before any pics show up :)
Any chance you and Janice may make it out to WF next year?
ChrisW 06-08-2009, 09:08 PM But what you lack in quantity you more than make up for it in quality!
We'd really like to make it to WF again. Sounded like it turned out well this year.

It was a really great show this year Chris and some original PL folks were there like Hooty and Roland. Would love to see you again in 2010
