Newby here, well kind of, I check in every now and then just to see what you all are talking about. I run around in the diecast forum but here couple of years ago got bit by the green and yellow bug! I know, I know green, red, orange, off white, blue, white you name the color there is a tractor to fit it!
My problem is not the tractor, its that great/terrible Onan that runs it. P model, B model, I mean why on earth would you change the diameter of a dipstick tube from one year to the next? Did they get a good buy on rubber grommets or what. Save money on a metal tube by making it smaller and use rubber to fill up the new space left behind, brilliant! The old design worked great for me. But that is not the problem this time but it did have me stumped on a Sunday afternoon!
So before I go gallie-vanting all over the internet looking for some out dated over priced (no joke by the way!) parts, figured I'd better come here first. I have a P model Onan in a 318 John Deere and the insulation on the hot wire has come off where it goes through the back of the plate on the electric clutch causing it to short, that I believe I can fix and if not I will swap the clutch with one off my other motor, its a blown up Onan B model.
#1 question. Are the shafts the same size, is there going to be any problems with just swapping? A test fit ought to be the proof of it working or not but after pulling the clutch off brought me to finding the on going problem of an OIL LEAK on my sweet running Onan P model! It make no sense to me to put a clutch on it and not fix the oil problem! So:
#2 question. Where would one go to find seals and gaskets and stuff for an Onan motor that still wont break the bank when it comes to paying for them. I haven't been to my friendly always smiling green and yellow dealer yet for I am saving that as my last resource. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated! Sorry for the long read, guess this was a rant with cry for help at the end! :)
Thanks.
