View Full Version : What Makes The Brl Special?
BIGCHUCK 05-28-2009, 10:45 AM Although I said earlier I wouldn't be running any polls on what the BRL rules should be; I am interested in feedback from BRL racers about what they think makes the BRL special. I think a lot of us who are regulars in the BRL are pretty passionate about the series and the racing it produced. And that kind of passionate support usually means that people think there is something special to be passionate about. I'm interested because the easiest way for me to screw up the BRL after taking it over from Sonny would be to change the things that make it special.
I obviously have my own ideas but I suspect each racer may have slightly different ideas or experiences about what makes it special.
So what do you think makes the BRL special or successful? Think about that and please let me have your ideas and thoughts.
I think in most any series the most important thing is leadership. Sonny provided terrific leadership and some real common sense. The rules package that was selected was well thought out and well implemented. The classes provided almost anyone a class that they were comfortable with the speed.
The facilities he chose were also key to the success and the groups that run those facilities were all proven in the past and were up to the task, each and every time.
The other thing that kept people coming back were the racers themselves, a very good and pationate group of racers who like to race and accepted the rules as being fair for everyone and making the competition very close. I personally remember 2 B mains which I finished 3rd and 4th and didn't transfer to the A and still some of the best races that I have ever been in and every racer smiling and laughing, win or lose.
It was nice to have the prizes for the drawings, but I don't think that is what keeps people coming race after race and year after year.
I'm sure that Chuck and Chuck will be able to fill the leadership role in the next chapter of the BRL.

Mayhem Racing 05-28-2009, 07:28 PM 1st...Friend's for sure. I had a bad personal year last year and raced more than I did the Seven years I was Married, and without all of you it might have been worse for me. So thanks to everyone. Special thanks to Big and Little Chuck. Phil you still rock bro, and Chris S for coming to get me in Vinton.
2nd.... Good racing....without fighting and yelling.
3rd... Rules Rules Rules. That keeps the racing good.
Good luck Big Chuck and Little Chuck next year, Need anything just ask I'm only a couple blocks away:thumbsup::dude:

MK Race 05-28-2009, 09:16 PM I think what makes the BRL so great was the way Sonny had things so organized. From the sponsors, to the rules, to keeping on the raceday schedule. The rules were made to be fair as can be for everybody.
The competition has been unbelievable every year. For the racing being so competitive, the racers get along very well. I know Bob and I have made friends with many racers that maybe you see here on HobbyTalk or have never meet before. Some are even Brewer fans, Red Wing fans, and even Cub fans.
Chuck I don't know if Sonny told you this part, but he made an effort to take everybody out at each race for BBQ. I think you should try to keep this going.
MIDWESTRC 05-28-2009, 10:26 PM #1- Sonny runs a great show, and all racers are treated equals.
#2- The racers have always been there to help out and answer questions.
#3- Great tracks
#4- Great sponsors
Chuck lets keep it going !!!!!
Hays Jr 05-28-2009, 11:41 PM I agree with the previous statements, gives you a reason to travel and race with friends and Unlike the Brewers/Cardinals series theres some real competition.
Mark #10 05-29-2009, 12:38 AM MONTI!!
ok..all joking aside..
The BRL is just a blast. Good Leadership, Well Organized Races, Held at Great Facilities, & Great Sponsors to help make it happen!
But most of all, It's the Great Racers!! You can't ask for a better group of guys to race with on and off the track. I look forward to the hanging out with everyone and bench racing and going out to H(.)(.)TERS & The Other (.)(.) establishment in Indiana .....just as much as I do the racing part of the weekend.
Chuck & Chuck, continue with what Sonny has started, and don't be afraid to add your own twists. I think we all trust you will do a great job with the series and build on what we already have!

Mark #10 05-29-2009, 12:44 AM I know Bob and I have made friends with many racers that maybe you see here on HobbyTalk or have never meet before.
Ok MK...You being Bob's Friend, and Bob being your Friend really doesn't count as making new friends.
Whaley II 05-29-2009, 04:56 AM 1.Rules that keep the cost down and not very many rule changes, such as motors speed controls. Everytime a rule is changed such as instead of running novak motors rule is changed to running any brand motor well that sounds great but it costs everybody money to do that and not everyone has alot of money to keep up with rule changes.
2.Tech Inspection that is extremely through and fair no special rules for special people.
3. Close competition
philb1 05-29-2009, 06:15 AM Everyone has hit on the points that make it the best.
MK, that phone call in Ft Wayne could have been a new friend, and you said no....
That's a good point, nothing ventured nothing gained.
MK Race 05-29-2009, 07:42 AM Everyone has hit on the points that make it the best.
MK, that phone call in Ft Wayne could have been a new friend, and you said no....
Phil, for the right price I think we both could of had a new friend.
Mark, I never said in public that Bob was a friend and your twin bothers don't count either.
Hays, at least we can beat those Cubbies. I have to like the Brewers, I won another $50 from a salesman that comes into work.
MikeM 05-29-2009, 11:31 AM 1)large fields to race against, as few classes as possible
2)fair consistant rules for more than one season, cost down
3)well organised, on time
yuk17bandit 05-29-2009, 12:11 PM the competition ! at what "other "race around the Midwest can you find all of the best drivers in one place!
Tommygun43 05-29-2009, 04:47 PM But always keep in mind what I choose to do is for the good of the racers that support the BRL.

haysreeling 05-30-2009, 01:00 AM Smarting off with the clowns, yeah, you know who you are, the excellent competition,
and well run, smooth, races.
Thanks Sonny for your forsight into devoloping this series and the support of you and Horizon and Novak, BSR, SMC and all the other sponsors who make this work.
I'm sure THE Chucks will carry on and make it grow even more.
MK, don't forget your sombrero and margarita chair as you assume your position in the infield at Storm Steel next week as my personnal car retrieval marshal. I will expect you to remove all the grass from the tires quickly so I can get back back on the track to create more havoc. I did sharpen the blades on the John Deere. BTW, nice job by the home team this week against the farm team.
NovakTwo 06-12-2009, 05:48 PM We have had a few questions concerning our plans for our SS Pro Spec motors. We will be releasing information on our new Ballistic Spec motors soon.
However, we made a commitment to Sonny (in the beginning) to continue offering our existing spec motors, so that participants in the BRL would not have to purchase new motors. New racers joining the BRL series will be able to purchase the existing SS Pro motors.
philb1 06-19-2009, 06:41 AM Thanks to ALL the BRL Sponsors,
Huge THANKS to Novak for the exceptional support!
