I recently moved to a townhouse with a decent sized basement. Given the constraints I have to work with, I have come up with the following:

The top edge and right edge would be against the walls of the room, the left edge and bottom edges would be open. The box in the lower left with the arrows in it is "open" area, where the racers would stand.

Track table dimensions are 14.5 feet wide, with a height of 8 feet at the far right, 5 feet in the middle and left parts of the track.

Track is SCX Digital, and while I would have the option to run 6 at a time, 3 or 4 is more likely the normal amount of traffic it will see.

Red "Rally Pit Boxes" are in place to represent my Pit area, as I have a bunch of the Carerra pit garages that will actually go there. Also, I may throw in a few more "X" cross straight pieces, have not decided yet if I will. More so, I am looking for feedback right now.

Thoughts?

I know the upper right corner might have some issues with regards to cleaning and retrieving de-slotted cars, but I have a "grabber" that should assist in that area.

I like the layout. The only thing that you might consider changing is the extended section on the right which could be troublesome visibility wise with more than one driver. If it all possible, I find it best to have the entire layout in front of all the drivers. You could go with a 14.5 feet wide by 6 feet table which in addition to improved visibility will also allow the drivers to spread out a little more.

Best regards,
Brian

I like the layout I just don't like the over and unders but given your space I can see why it's there. Nice size and layout though

Man I wish I could have a basement in the Houston area! You guys that don't live at sea level got it made - that's like a whole other floor that's hidden, other than the main parts of the house!

The layout looks great, but I do agree with Brian - I've raced a layout similar to that and two or more people racing usually means you are ducking and stepping back and forth to keep track of the car. If it's just you racing then of couse it won't be an issue. Aside from that, great use of space! Oh, I'd be a little concerned about the real sharp truns in some locations - looks a bit tight and may need more of a smoother transition - you'll have to play with it and test it out before locking the track down.

Thanks for sharing!

One thing I try to avoid is the short straight between curved sections like you have pictured in the 180+ degree turn on the left side. It seems to give the cars a jerky feel as you go through the turn, and the turn is then reduced to a single speed.
I totally agree with PD2, test, adjust, test, adjust.
