View Full Version : Magnatraction!
DesertSlot 05-26-2009, 10:41 PM I just bought a couple of Magnatractions tonight. The Blue #2 Ferrari and the Red #2 Ferrari. They are used of course but, are supposed to be in excellent condition. The one I was looking at the other night sold in less than ten minutes! I wonder why these two were still available at the last minute. Can anybody tell me anything about these cars? Like what years they came out, etc. Thanks in advance. Dave BTW, these are the first older cars I have bought. Starting my vintage collection.

Coyote Red 05-26-2009, 10:53 PM The magnatraction is a great chassis. Smooth, consistent, simple to take care of, and tough. And usually offered close racing with buddies. Since I don't run them anymore, I don't what the replacement part market is like though. If AW offers replacement parts, then it's a great chassis because there are a ton of different body options.
GoodwrenchIntim 05-26-2009, 11:06 PM Those came out in the mid to late 70's The blue one was my first HO car, my brother had the yellow one that came in the set
twolff 05-26-2009, 11:09 PM JL/AW Pickups and springs fit. I like the wide pickups from the AW cars as the pickups don't fall off the rail and bind when the rear end get too far out. I've never been able to properly adjust the flat pickups that came stock on the Magnatractions anyway. Parts can be had easily enough.

Desert,
You never know why one item sells one day and the same item does not the next.. the cars in particular are very common.. so, most collectors or even racers probably have a few in the box already.. I know I do.

DesertSlot 05-27-2009, 07:20 AM Thanks for all the great info guys! Looks like they have the same body mounts as AFX has today. They will be the first pancakes I've had since the 60's. I'm looking forward to running and tinkering with them. I think they've had light use but shoes, springs and brushes might be in order.

Very true. I once missed an auction (simply forgot) that had 5 or 6 nice looking maggie tracs where the opening bid was $.99.
When it was over, NOBODY had bid on it. D'oh! :freak:

Cool! 35 years old. I guess that is vintage. Thanks Jimmy.
roadrner 05-27-2009, 11:32 AM Desertslot,
Can't go wrong with the AFX and XT MTs and AFX non MTs for pancake fun. Don't forget to look into the TJet and Tuff ones as well. Enjoy!:thumbsup: rr
DesertSlot 05-27-2009, 02:37 PM Thank RR. I sure want to get a few Tjets. I'm keeping an eye out for something I remember having as a kid. Like that tan 63 vette.
tjettim 05-27-2009, 03:22 PM The hot setup used to be to put the non magnatraction
afx gearplate and arm in.(Mean Green). Then use the
Tuff One brushes and AJs slip on sils.

Xence 05-29-2009, 02:26 PM Haven't posted in a bit but I gotta throw my 2 cents in on this thread. I LOVE the magna's those are my all time fav's. I have parts all over my basement. My wife has even gone to the lengths of not letting our cats downstairs as they tend to make a mess of my small hobby table where said parts reside. I think the 512 is one of my fav's to run too, I love to swing the tail end around on a corner. SOOOO much fun. I know I'm low in the ballpark concerning #'s but I must have like 800 cars or so, not a huge collection but I would say around 75% of those are magna's ... yes I have a sickness and no I don't want to treat it unless the treatment is more magna's!!!!
Deser welcome to the world of your new addicti... I mean hobby.
Cheers,
Xence
RiderZ 05-29-2009, 07:12 PM I too recently fell in love all over again with the AFX MT chassis.I've been back into slots for three years now and ran strictly inline mag cars. Now i have 19 MT cars and counting.
DesertSlot 05-29-2009, 07:34 PM Awesome collection dude. I see I'll have some catching up to do. Try not to out bid me! Dave

Thanks for the great post and a welcome to the world of MT. I missed them when they came out. I was into T-Jets in the 60's and then Tycos in the 80's. Now I'm back for good and making up for lost time.
Ligier Runner 06-01-2009, 08:19 AM Nice looking cars Rider! You've got a few cars there I'd still like to get my hands on.
