Okay, I've worked long and hard on this kit. It's an awesome build, and I don't normally like figure kits!

Mcdee:wave: Aurorafan 05-26-2009, 07:52 AM Great job, I particularly love the woodwork. It is spot-on. Can you share your technique? mrmurph 05-26-2009, 10:58 AM Beautifully done. LGFugate 05-26-2009, 02:43 PM My wife, Jane, was my painting consultant on this work. All of the paint on this kit (except the primer and gloss clear coat, of course) is acrylic craft paint from HobbyLobby. To get the woodgrain, I did not prime the table or bookcase. Instead, I took brown paint on a brush shaped like a Japanese fan and stroked it across the surface, creating a woodgrain-like finish. I did this until it really looked like a piece of wood. This is kinda like dry brushing but uses a bit more paint. The tan of the plastic needs to show thru a little to help make the illusion of woodgrain. Once you've got it looking good, let the paint dry well, then coat it with a gloss or satin clear coat to protect it and to even out the surface. (Acrylic paints don't make smooth surfaces very well.) BTW, take a look at a real piece of finished (not painted) wood. See how the lines aren't always perfectly straight, or even parallel? Try to simulate that on your faux woodgrain for an even more realistic effect. And, with acrylic paint, you can always just wash the paint off if you don't like it! (Before clearcoating, of course!)
