I'm not an authority by any stretch, but if you're talking about HO scale I believe there is. There is a guy from Malaysia who sells on ebay, and he has some nice (and different) stuff. I passed up an opportunity to snag a Tyco he had listed that I really liked. No one bid on it, and he hasn't re-listed it. Just to give you an idea, I have no Tyco anymore to speak of, but still wanted this particular car.

I would be leery of the oddball asian stuff.. Bruce (Bad Dawg) and TomHocars can fill you in on the storys of some of the stuff coming out the that area of the world.. Here is one thread of a few that deal with them..

It goes way off on a tangent by the bottom of the page (once the riddle was solved) but it sort of explains what I think you're asking about. These guys do move around and sell out of different countries...

Lendell,
A direct connection, wouldn't think you'd go wrong with that. That's what friends are for.........:) Dave

Not sure which way this questionis is pointed, but be careful of what you get from a couple venders from Malaysia and Singapore. Old venders of Tyco Toys I worked with when I work for Tyco . The one person bought out Tyco HK stock when the Mattel merger took place and the other has few unreleased items like the red tcr t-bird, orange ferrari f-40 and one or two others ,but the vender from Malaysia had molds , deco templates and the ability to make his own cars and sell fake cars as real tyco rare cars like chrome ferrari f-40's and the days of thunder stock cars in chrome . Took a bunch of people at a NY show for hundreds of dollars per car . They then went on ebay selling green plastic molded cars decoed # 3 cars and I can go on. Anything made from those areas of the world that is sold under the idea they are either special runs or prototypes are fakes so becareful. This may or may not be what this thread is about ,but this warning should be outthere for collectors .

chrome ferrari f-40's

The good Lord told me not to buy that thing, and I've been mad at him ever since. He always knows....

If someone has the molds, and you can't tell the difference when you're holding it in you hands, that's madness...

I'm not a collector, but a red chrome F40 could make a pretty bad ass runner. But who wants to give there money (even for that) to someone trying to deceive people?

Well, I kinda look at this a little different.
Let me explain.

Carrol Shelby has given his blessing to and signed quite a few Cobra's that were pieced together from parts and fenders that were made from original stampings. They call them Recreations and people with more money than I will ever have paid big money to own them. They are in the Shelby registry as legit Shelby cars.

If you have a mold that was made by the manufacturer in question (Tyco for the Slots, Cobra for the Shelbys) then aren't the parts still the real deal, only made by someone other than the original factory boys?

If the seller says they are "Recreations" then all is well and good in my world.

I understand that when they make up stories about being short run prototypes or "Made for the South American Market" that you have a right to be angry.
But if you really think about it, the Push cars that Aurora had made up by outside artists are not really Aurora products as they were never available to the general public and therefore are One-offs, nothing less and nothing more.
I do not see they value in the fire trucks that Aurora had commissioned, they are not a real Aurora product, but to each his own.

Thanks,
Keith

The biggest problem I've heard about these cars isn't the mold design. It's the materials used to mold the body. They are being made from an inferior plastic and some are very brittle and prone to breakage. Most of the auctions list them as being rare prototypes or short runs, when actually what is making them rare is the fact they only list one at a time.. Caveat Emptor (buyer beware).... know what you're getting before you toss money on something that won't be much more than a shelf queen..

Keith, You hit the problem with the "recreations" right on the head. Refer to the section of your post that I have high lighted. Selling recreations is anyones legitimate prerogative. If the seller is up front and says "hey, I made these using the old Tyco tools and decal artwork" all is good. This is not what the seller(s) Bruce has referred to has been doing. He sells tham as NOS Tyco/Mattel. He picks the rarest cars that command the highest collector prices and repops those. I should know, this is how I got my "rare" #20 Miller Genuine Draft McLaren bodied car. "kereta17408" has rare cars like this week after week. Check him out today. He has a pair of VHTF chaparral bodied McLarens - one with Marlboro markings. He has a "Cosmic Flyer" F-40. He has a Skoal Bandit stock car and a whole bunch of other stuff. In a few weeks, he'll have these cars again.

So, I see two problems. First, people who want to collect think they are buying "an original Cobra" in your terms not a recreation. Which do you think is more valuable? Second, this dude is flooding the market and driving down the price of the true rare cars. If I were a serious collector versus a guy who just wanted a neat looking car, I'd be pissed. It comes down to the seller not being truthful about what he is selling. Look at the section of the add that says "original or reproduction". You will find it marked original. To be original, it would have to have been made when Tyco was in business. If the tools et al are used today to make the car it is a reproduction.

I think this is the same guy who had the red chrome F40. It has to be. I sent him a message about a week ago asking if he was going to re-list and never got a response. I thought that was kind of strange.

If I were a collector I would be upset too I guess. Personally, I'm interested in the "rarer" cars just so when I hook up with friends I got something a little different. But nothing I own is above hitting the track for at least a couple laps, no matter how much I had to pay to get it.

It wouldn't seem that duplicating these cars is all that easy.
