I have a need for several Dune Buggy Windshields. Before I call Phil at RRR I was wondering if anyone has another source for these? I've used Tom at HO Models (has been great to work with in the past) but his glass is at $10 ea now. Harrison at Model Motoring has been great for AC Cobra glass and Mustang tops but he does not have Dune Buggy Glass. Other than casting them myself (which I've never attempted), any suggestions?

Thanks in advance. Tom

The Hotwheels VW thing available at your friendly neighborhood walmart has a nifty glass that appears pretty darn close to what you need with a little constructive trimming..

Here's the glass (removed the hard way.. I twisted and cut the interior out rather than drill the rivits)...

Here's a view stacked up with a RRR Dune Buggy glass.....

For the price and the ease of access, it's worth tinkering with it... RRR doesn't stock parts.. they're made to order. Pert near every Wally World has these orange VW things in stock as it's a recent release. Incidently, the top pulls out of the back straight out, and there's a tab that hooks on the glass. A ragtop version custom DB is on the to do list,, I just can't seem to get the list moving!! Hope this helps Tom!! Joe

And to give you a bit of value for you .89 cents, you also get this cool rag top to boot!!!

Now I think of it, since the glass is flat I'm sure there are other sources as well. I just was not thinking creatively!

How about tic-tac containers?

You can go thin and light by trimming the flat section of a blister pack. If you want a frame, cut a thin strip of trim tape or BMF and use it to frame three or fours sides.

A neat idea that i got from Bill Hall....

We carve up VCR and cassette tape windows/cases for flat glass.
PLUS, i have found that with a gentle heating, this type of clear plastic will take a curve and stay put when cool.

Yuppers! (actually I think I stole the idea from RR)

Cassette boxes come in smoked and tinted colors too. You can cut, grind, sand, polish, and butcher to your hearts content.

1 CD case (thinner material) would make at least a hundred buggy windshields.

Bill,
Sorry, didn't steal it from me, wish I could take credit as it is a pretty good idea. I, in the past when in need have subscribed to the blister pak solution. Easy to work with, really clear just be careful of your choice of glue. ;) Dave

I've created my first windshield from a CD case and it seems to be the right thickness. Used a honing stone to get my edges straight. Still working on getting the angle right on the bottom. Thinking of cutting a few pieces of wood on the mitre saw to serve as a jig once I figure out the proper angle. Thanks for the help and ideas!
