View Full Version : Which 1/43rd Model
Rayman 05-18-2009, 06:48 AM A question. Which, in your opinion, would be a worldwide appealing car if it were to be made in 1/43rd scale, that has either not been made before or was made years ago and not available because of rarity, or was of poor quality or execution. It can be anything, as long as it is a motor car, road or race and would appeal to a world market.
PWSchuh 05-18-2009, 08:28 AM Mad Max Pursuit Ford. Not released commercially in 1/43. Lots of people want it.

Great choice!
ranchero 05-19-2009, 02:09 PM Knowing what I do about the company, I would say there is a decent chance that the Mad Max Ford could be released in 1/43 by Auto Art.
Auto Art has modeled that car in 1/18 scale already. Most of their releases are available in both 1/18 and 1/43 so if that practice continues you may see the Mad Max Ford in 1/43. I'd say contact them to tell them what you want.
Auto Art and the Australian brand Biante seem to be related; perhaps the model would be available first under the Biante brand.

There are many Le Mans collectors out there - one glaring omission as a diecast (or maybe a resin from Spark), would be the 1989 Jaguars.
The Jags, from their return to LM in 1984, to the last Group C XJR-12 in 1991, are all available, except the '89 cars. All the other main competitors, from '89, have recently been released as well.
As for non competition cars, I think the Mad Max car is due out in 1:43 - I'm sure I've seen it recently, in a Japanese Show report. However, screen cars (TV or film) would be the obvious choice for worldwide success - Jim Rockford's Firebird - would that sell?

Yea, I have been hearing this for a long time and yet... nothing.
ranchero 05-21-2009, 01:06 PM I'd like a two car Mustang Bullitt set - The original movie car and the '08 Ford production car, both of course in highland green metallic.
The movie car is available in 1/18, 1/24 & 1/64 but I've never seen it in 1/43. And the '05 - '09 style Mustang GT coupe is availalbe in 1/43 but have not seen it in HGM paint scheme with correct wheels and lack of trim.
I think Minichamps or Auto Art could pull this off quite easily using existing castings.

SMS88 05-22-2009, 03:42 AM I guess the lack of some movie/TV show cars is down to the cost of getting permission to make them in relation to the likely volumes that will sell.
However, just getting Ford or GM permission and painting the casting in the correct colour and then giving it the wrong registration gets around licensing requirements for cars like the Rockford Firebird ( I would buy one!).Corgi´s Vanguards brand has done this with look alikes for the Life on Mars Cortina Mk3 and The Sweeney Consul GT
The 1/43 Ford Falcon casting already exists in standard and Cobra form so the black paint and trim for Mad Max is merely about permission, although perhaps choosing to model a real life copycat would just require permission of the copycat owner and Ford???

Hey, check out diecastdirect (http://www.diecastdirect.com/asp_modules/catalogs.asp?RChar=S&Mfg=YM) and grandprixlegends (http://www.grandprixlegends.com/diecast-legends/vehicles/tv-film/yat-ming-ford-mustang-gt-1968-bullitt-1-43-model-car.html) - Yatming will issue the 1968! Hopefully!

I don't see getting the proper permissions as an issue for the Mad Max car since it's already been done in the other scales. For my collection, I only collect authorized cars that come in packaging that features the movie or show, so the "close but different license plate cars" are not for me.
ranchero 05-22-2009, 01:31 PM karl s - Thanks for the tip; I'll order a 43rd Bullitt from Diecast Direct when the model comes in. Now where do I go to get the '08 version? The Yat Ming models have been OK, but I wish there was a version of the '68 by one of those quality makers Minichamps or Auto Art.

Hi ranchero
Minichamps have already released the '68 Fastback Mustang in 1:43rd scale a few years ago.
I have one in blue plus their Bullitt version. Both are hard to find now.
Cheers Chris
ranchero 05-22-2009, 07:34 PM Chris - I have the '68 fastback in black and in gold but I have never seen a "Bullitt" version in highland green metallic. If you have the nine digit Minichamps marketing number, please post it for me.
I've got the Minichamps 43rd of the current Mustang GT coupe in red and in blue. I want them to do the hgm Bullitt version of this car too.
Thanks, Chris. - ranchero -

I don't know about "nine digit" but this is the number that's on mine: 12138052253

The '68 Bullitt is 436 082022 - shown in the 2005 catalogue & discribed as the Bullitt car - number plates look to be correct (bit difficult to tell, due to the angle of the photo).
Steve
ranchero 05-24-2009, 01:29 PM Steve - Thank you. I may have missed it because it is in the 436 series, not the 430 series. Well, I will now try to find one. Appreciate the help.

Whoops, sorry about the number confusion. For some reason I had mine filed under the bar code number instead of the traditional Minichamps number, but mine is of course the same. The run was supposedly limited to 3,333 pieces.

I'd love to see the Group 44 Jags that raced in the IMSA GTP series in the 1980's , also the E Type Trans Am Jag.
