I have a 8hp Briggs and Stratton that surges at all speeds. I rebuilt the carb and it still surges. I tried adjusting low and high speed jets. Still does it. Any help would be appreceiated. Thanks Bruce

Thanks,Bruce geogrubb 05-15-2009, 12:21 PM While it is running spray some carb cleaner along the mating surfaces of carb to intake and intake to block to see if the engine tempo changes, if it does you have an air leak, could be a bad gasket. I had a 8hp with a crack in the intake manifold it about drove me nuts before I found it. Report back as to what you find. Have a good one. Geo 30yearTech 05-15-2009, 06:11 PM The governor may need to be adjusted, and there could be excessive play in the throttle shaft. It could be different things depending upon the model of engine you have. shark 05-27-2009, 01:20 PM Just reporting back on the 8hp briggs surging. I think I got it straightened out. I adjusted the screw that is on the end of the throttle shaft. In my case I had to turn it in about (2) turns. The motor runs great. That was on my snowblower, My neighbor brought over his rider with a 8hp vertical shaft. I rebuilt carb and had the same surging. I then turned in the same screw. Motor flattened right out and runs fine. Is there a proper name for this screw? I hope I remember this the next time I work on a Briggs. Thanks for all the suggestions on this problem. I hope my solution will help someone. Bruce vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
