Well, I've been trying to get rid of some of my nitro stuff, but no one seems interested. I really like oval and was thinking about converting my XXX-NT into an EDM car. Now, I see Speedy's make a conversion kit with some low profile shock mounts and such and also recommends to also use some TC3 shocks with these...

I also seen a few photos of EDM cars that look like they have no modifications to the shocks or shock tower such as this one...

So, would it be recommended to get that conversion kit? What purpose does it serve aside from lowering the car? Would it really make a difference if you were going to run it on an oval that wasn't as smooth? I'd like to know since I don't think there's $62.00 worth of stuff in that kit.

The biggest advantage to these type kits for trucks on dirt oval is ease of mounting an EDM or Outlaw type truck body these kits are not intended to lower the truck. If you look closely at the pictures the arms are level as they should (not swept upwards)which can easily be done by adding limiters to the stock shocks and is much cheaper.

The other thing by using touring car shocks on trucks it allows the use of stiffer springs, usually much too stiff for truck IMO. If you choose to go this route invest in a set of Associated buggy front springs. HTH.

Thanks for the information. So, are there any other mounting kits for these then? Maybe the one in the picture has homemade mounts. I assume it wouldn't be too hard to make something and if worst comes to worst you could always use velcro.

By the way, would the setup for these be the same as any other oval body you're running? If there's anyone else who runs one of these and has some experience, I'd be interested in hearing any setup tips or suggestions. I don't see a lot of talk on here for these, though. Maybe I should be asking the guys at Dirt Oval.

I went with one of the Speedys kits on an Associated RC10gt simply to get the body to sit on the chassis the way I wanted and to get the overall ride height down. A lower center of gravity will help the car to get through the corners faster. Along with the lowering kit, I went with short buggy shocks because the track we race on is alittle bumpy and the tc3 shocks didn't have enough travel.
Either way will work, it really depends on the track and what set up you want to run.

Where's a good place to get either an Associated or Losi buggy shock kit? I looked around last night and couldn't find anything aside from a set of the bodies themselves. Would prefer something threaded and all that would need to be done is to build and put oil in them.

It's going to be difficult to find threaded shocks in sets, but try surfing e bay, you might get lucky. If you are wanting TC3 type shocks, they are all over, but longer ones are hard to find.

If you dont have any luck getting threaded shocks, just get the shock clips for wedge adjustments they work great. I use black ones for setting my ride heights then when I have to make an adjustment due to track conditions I use green ones. That way I know what was done. You dont always remember how many turns you put in or took out.
