Will Farrell in Land of the Lost?

He's not been in anything that I've liked. A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G

That's my opinion, I welcome yours.

Yeah, I think I will pass on this one. Loved the original show, but to turn it into a will farrell/SNL-ish comedy? Yuck.

I admit, I was a bit dubious when I heard about a remake film, but then seeing the promo, it just killed it for me. The cast and the premise makes the saturday morning film look like high art in comparison, despite the low budget and the kid-vid target audience. At least the major 3 cast members played their roles "straight", so it didn't look completely silly.

I can appreciate Will Farrell for the comedy talent that he is, but when I see his name on a project that coincides with something I was planning on seeing, I know what the result's gonna be.

I'll pass on this one...

Yeah, my wife and I just saw the tv spot tonight. We were sooooo disappointed. We both loved that show when we were growing up. But, neither of us can stand Farrell. He just irritates me no end. DRAT!! I'm bummed. I was looking forward to this incarnation.... oh well...

Aren't we only supposed to be negative about Star Trek?

I seriously doubt this property could be done............seriously.

Looks like fun.

OK, so sometimes, Will Farrell is a bit too much, but c'mon! Old School is hilarious! And Talladega Nights is pure genius!!!

The Land of the Lost adaptation is obviously meant to be tongue in cheek, and it looks like it could be a lot of fun.

the trailer looks like ... well... cookie-cutter crap. its one thing to laugh with a show and premise, but these guys are laughing at it, and doing so in a very formula way.
a real land of the lost big budget remake could have been cool, but this just looks like junk.
farrell is just the icing on the crap-cake. i wont even waste my time on renting the dvd.

Why do they always have to make fun of things we liked when we were younger? Why can't they make the "remake" movie in the same spirit as the original?

Define younger. If they did everything like it was when I was "younger," it would be on a very small, black and white screen with mono sound.

On the other hand, there are people who are only "young" now.

"I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now" - Bob Dylan.

From everything I have read, Sid and Marty Krofft are VERY happy with the new film, but to be fair, Bob Kane was VERY happy with "Batman and Robin".
I LIKE Will Ferrell, and would probably check this out in the theater, but I plan on seeing "Star Trek" at LEAST four more times (have only seen it twice so far) and my entertainment budget is tight this year. ;)

Your statement is self defeating. Will Farrell has no comedic talent at all. He is an overrated hack who has fooled people into thinking that acting stupid (well maybe not acting in his case) equates to being a 'comedian'. Put him up against true comedic talent like John Belushi, Steve Martin, Sam Kinneson and others and he is nothing more than an annoying little kid pandering for attention.

Old School would have been funnier without that idiot.

That being said... I probably WILL see LOTL even if just on DVD because the show was so good in it's cheesiness that I don't even think Will could screw it up that badly. I agree the Sleestak look wonderful and I think I could tolerate Will long enough to see if this movie is worth watching. I can always hit the stop button and walk away disappointed but not surprised.

Or I may actually be able to say I have seen a Will Farrell movie that didn't make me wish to take back those two hours of my life.

I actually thought he did a decent job in Stranger Than Fiction

I loved the show as a kid...if you were a Star Trek and SF fan then LOTL was manna from heaven, at least in terms of writers. The show actually matured quite a bit in the second season, with a turn toward near-hard science fiction, before receiving a lobotomy for the third season.

My mind boggled when I was reading a script review for the new movie at Ain't It Cool and it mentioned The Zarn was a character in the film. The Zarn is kind of an obscure character for most people when thinking of the old series, but he was actually the "Big Bad" of the second season. I don't know if he's still in the film, but it speaks to craziness of the film's concept that it includes such canon details as The Zarn, and yet it's entirely intent on ripping the show a new one at the same time...

Saw a trailer just yesterday. Didn't like what I saw one bit. There is zero chance I will watch it. The jokes were obvious, Farrell's character seems completely unlikeable, and I won't waste my time watching it. But, different strokes, I guess.

i disagree. saying that land of the lost could only be made successfully is in a campy way is like saying that the only way to do batman would be in the style of the adam west series.

it could have been done straight, and done well.

Eh. Not a great analogy considering the Adam West series was one very particular take on an ubiquitous comic book superhero with 30 years of history at the time the TV series was created, but - I don't care enough to argue about it. ;)

Far Out Space Nuts?
Damn dude, I'd forgotten that show...

Personally I can't stand Farrell, Sandler (although Chuck & Larry was okay, but maybe that was because of Jessica Biel. Click was not so good, even with Kate Beckinsale), or any of their low-brow ilk. IMHO their films are intended to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

Kinda remember LotL (my brother watched it more) but I think this is another I'm going to pass on.

Kids like goofy. It'll make money for the producers in general release and on home video.

I'm not a big Will Farell fan either, but lets give credit where credit is due. The writers made it so HIS stupidity gives him what he deserves. Its gonna be real satisfying to see him have to take all the heat because of his stupid remarks and attempts at being a know-it-all. I'll go see it for two reasons...1st to enjoy the CGI renderings and 2nd to laugh at how stupid Will is made to portray. Lets face it, this is meant to appeal to kids and is NOT supposed to be based on any resemblance of science fact. Its entertainment....not a science or history lesson. Watch the Discovery channel or History channel if you're looking for that kind of stuff. In regards to the original movie/miniseries, the effects were poor quality, the acting was second rate, and the story line barely had enough cohesion to keep your attention. in short, it looked like a second rate saturday morning kids show.
I don't see how Will's presence in the movie could ruin any of that.
The bottom line is.....its meant for entertainment. If you can't go and enjoy it for what it is, then just don't go. Theres no reason to try and convince other people that it isn't done right or discourage them from making their own assesment.

Personally, I've no interest in Land Of The Lost in any incarnation, this movie or the old TV show, though this film may have a few laughs in it. Even as a kid, I thought this and everything from Sid and Marty Kroft were pretty abysmal. IMO, anything someone could do with LOTL could only be an improvement on the cheesy kid's show. What I don't get is why all the dislike for Ferrel. Of course, not everything he's done is great, but he's had plenty of funny moments onscreen. I guess he's just the latest target to throw bile at for seemingly no reason.

Griffworks

Uh... Just 'cause folks don't really care for Ferrell doesn't mean they're throwing bile.

Personally, I don't care for him, but I don't hate him, either. He's only good in one aspect of the comedy genre, IMNSHO, but he's pretty good at it - the goofy, likable idiot. I think he's done very well when he plays that role, but whenever he goes for anything remotely beyond that? He just doesn't reach, brother. At least, not in anything that I've seen him in.

To be honest, tho, I'm starting to get a bit tired of his same-old-same-old movies. Do I throw "bile" at him? No. I love him in those movies to which his particular style excells and can watch Anchorman, Old School and Talledega Nights over and over, as well as watch his cameo's in various other movies. His other stuff, not so much.

watched him last night on man vs wild and he tried to joke his way through UNTIL, he knew he could get hurt unless he wised up. In the opening of the show, bear grylis TOLD him they only had a meager amount of survival food ( some twinkies) AND THE JERK ATE THEM WITHIN 10 MINUTES and left them nothing to eat. i couldn't take it any longer & changed channels. now i will have to try and watch it again to see what bear made him eat.

While I don't really feel passionately one way or another about Farrell, I think you could make the case that he's in danger of being over-exposed in less-than-steller material.

Case in point.

Personally, I've laughed harder at some of his internet films than anything he's done on the big screen since Anchorman. And the last film of his I did see, Blades of Glory, was painfully unfunny. If you can't find something funny to parody in figure skating, you might be cranking out the movies a little too fast.

I agree, I can't stand the actor. I think the original LOTL would be a better show. But if they turned him into a Sleazestack, and all of his dialog into that sound they made, it could be watchable.

He's been in some stinkers, true. I usually wait until his movies appear on Movies on Demand so I'm never upset at having gone to all the trouble to drive to a theater to see him in anything where I might have been severely disappointed.

His forte is support and co-starring roles. I've enjoyed him in a lot of his starring roles where it's been more of a low-key, snickering kind of movie but he's been out loud hilarious in Austin Powers and other movies where he wasn't all there was.

His role in Zoolander, however, was maximum in cumulative snickers--probably the zenith of his style. Ferrell seems to go to the extreme in absurdity with a goofy seriousness that I've always enjoyed.

In one sense, Ferrell's humor is almost dry and obscure due to the extremity of his style. He'll make a joke funny by carrying it way beyond the point where anyone could think it is funny. That kind of extreme joke surfing is something that Andy Kaufman could do although the means of delivery and style were different.

Just watched in on M.O.D. Great fun and Will Ferrell's silliness as usual! I like a lot of the changes they made to the "routine expedition."

Overall, I think it could have been funnier and probably would have been if they'd stuck to the original a little bit in terms of parodying it. Still, it was a lot of fun and enjoyed it thoroughly.
