Hello,
I am curious to a forum I was reading about shock oils, I have a Redcat truck that needs fluid added to the shocks, I saw another forum where the guy used motor oil in his shocks instead of the high priced Silicon oil. So my question is will the Motor oil work as good as the Silicon, and is there a reason they use Silicon oil.

i wouldn't use petroleum because it doesn't move as freely so it would be less dampening and more damaging. just spend the extra buck and get the silicone oil, also the little bottle lasts a long time longer than you would think.

the other thing that you might want to watch out for is the fact that over time motor oil starts to turn acidic (this is why they tell you the 3 month time to change oil in an engine) and may mess up the seals in the shocks. I just bought some of the Losi shock oil for my t-maxx. It cost $4 a bottle (at a local hobby shop) and half or less of the bottle filled all 8 of the shocks.

How do you know if the oil in your shocks is low? Also, how do you add or change the oil? I'm pretty new to this hobby so I'm not sure. Thanks
