22 seems to be a lucky number for Lesney - the 22b Vauxhall Cresta is in most vintage Lesney collectors top 3 favourite castings and the replacement 22c is also a desirable winner, especially the final issue in purple with Superfast wheels..........
All of the cars shown below have been played with by kids, no mint collector owned examples here:wave:
Here is the decent orange rather than standard deep red issue that I found last weekend without doors for $1.50.And in my reserve collection a playworn doors donor in a slightly darker shade of red but still a lot lighter than the standard deep red issues.
And then when I turn the orange car over and compare baseplates I find that I now have all 4 different baseplates used on this casting (1) no patent & no towguide, (2) patent but no tow guide (3) patent & tow guide (4) Superfast base. Odd how brittle and flakey this red paint is compared to the normally top quality paint used on most Lesney castings.............

The Red Superfast 22 is much more rarer than the purple version

Is your Red S/F Version the one pictured in the base photo shot (Last pic) , It looks Purple in the base pic ?

It also looks like the 4 castings of the body. Thin to thick behind the front bumper. The sf model on the right with the thicker portion behind the bumper I believe exists with the rw model too.

The orange shade on the 22 Pontiac seems to be the same as on the lightest of the rw 67 VW1600TL,another issue very easily chipped, with a Playart flakiness to the red-orange paint
The red car with SF wheels is a beater baseplate swap from a purple car with a crushed roof, which is why I didnt hesitate to borrow doors from it,all the others shown are as Lesney built them save for some chips. And yes, that is my purple sf car showing its baseplate.........
The bigger wheels and higher ride of the SF looks better to me than the lowrider rw.

I agree now that I look , and hadnt compared bodies beyond front numberplates -it is nice to have nailed most of the noticeable variations.......

The purple 22 had opening doors initially, then they where cast shut, right?
Which is more rarerer???

Any Superfast 22 Pontiac with opening doors is mega rare ,be it red or purple. The ones on ebay are always purple with cast shut doors, and almost none of those good ole boys over on that other site have any colour Superfast Pontiac that genuinely left the factory with opening doors
