Got my ticket for one of the two Digital Projections showings tonight at our favorite theater.

BTW-this is the first time I've been to a "digital projection", at least as far as I know. Is there going to be a noticable improvement over a film version?

I'm jealous! Our local 12-screen theater complex was the first all-digital equipped multiplex in the country, until Cinemark took it over and the original owners took the digital projectors with them. I love film properly projected, but the local digital projection was a huge step up in quality from local film projection. I'm especially fond of a digitally projected showing of "Silent Hill", so realistic and foreboding I actually sank down in my seat. Saw "Trek" tonight via film print, and it was fantastic. I imagine digitally projected it would a truly spectacular experience...

Unfortunately, at our multi-plex, the theater set up for digital projection has a pretty small screen. It looked great, but when I see it again with the wife this weekend, I'm watching it on their biggest screen.

This film was quite good I thought. I really enjoyed it. It cemented the character relationships for the sequel.

Apart from the names of the movie, the ship and the characters, I'm expecting a near complete paradigm shift in how Trek is percieved.

So has JJ in large part re-worked Star Trek into the new Star Wars, or is it more of a hybrid of classic Trek and SW?

Whatever the case I will be finding out tomorrow.:o

I thought it was good. They meshed everything together very well. "the" romance tottaly caught me off guard! WHY did they feel the need to aztek this ship too? im sick of azteking. anyway go see it, worth the bucks. lot of fun. I found myself smiling alot.

I didn't hate it but I didn't like it much either. Too contrived and unrealistic. Kirk just rides a motorcycle into a restricted area, gets on a shuttle and is accepted at Star Fleet? No application or tests? Then magine having an aircraft carrier manned with nothing but cadets with no officers aboard. Then a crisis comes up and after it's said and done one standout while still a junior officer is made captain. The engine room had block walls and looked like the inside of a factory along with steam coming out of pipes and cut off valves. The engine room sucked. Sword fight? Where where their phasers? Vulcan and Romulus destroyed? Vulcan has a blue sky not red? Kirk just happens to land near a cave with Spock inside? The worst by far was the Uhura-Spock relationship. Total outlandish BS. Even a shift in time doesn't explain why the ship was built in Iowa of all places. I saw the usual geeks in Star Trek outfits at the movies and they sang it's praises. I just don't understand. The whole movie reminded me of Starship Troopers. I'm sorry but I gave it a chance, paid my money and sat through it looking at my watch. I laughed one time. Poor Leonard Nimoy looked so out of place it made me sad. Thank God Shatner had no part in it. The biggest gripe I have is that the best scenes were already released in spoilers online by the studio of all people. I give it 1/2 star out of 5.

Long live the big 3.

Well, I went and I loved it.

Kirk rides up to where open recruiting is happening and climbs aboard. Didn't bother me. Pike recognized Kirk's potential in naming him first officer. Maybe a bit unrealistic, but I bought it. Their phasers were knocked out. At least Kirk's was. I too thought Vulcan's sky should be redder. Kirk landing near Spock on Delta Vega was a stretch. I liked the Spock/Uhura relationship. Like father, like son.

I have to say that everyone in our group loved it. They ranged from 8 years old to nearly 50. I've been a Trek fan for 35 years and consider myself pretty die-hard. I thought some of the art direction choices were questionable, but the story, action and characters trumped all that. I still don't care for about half of the new Enterprise, but when she came in phasers blazing, it was thrilling.

I thought the comic relief was a bit overdone in spots, but I can live with it. What was that little creature with Scotty? When my wife asked about it I said it was a Trek ewok. Or Scotty's version of Twiki.

Can't wait to see it again. Probably in IMAX.

I would think that if Kirk was invited to join via Pike, gee...I dunno, maybe I'd suspect he'd have clearance right from the top to show up. Just because they didn't show him being questioned or detained doesn't mean it didn't happen either. They didn't show anybody using the restroom. Does that mean they didn't? They don't have to show you every little detail that happens in the context of a story. Fill in the blanks.
